Guest guest
Hello to all, I just joined the group, I live in Canada(TORONTO) and live off a government subsidy, also my meds are paid from this sub. I was on LIPITOR but the scrip ran out and my GP was away, when he gets back the first week he is booked solid. This is probaly good news for me, no-one told me about any side effects from this drug. Last year I developed nerve damage in my left hand. It(hand) had no feeling with baby finger and finger next to that. I was told this was a side effect of being a diabetic. My GP sent me to a surgen to see about micro- surgery. In March this was done, it did free up the feeling in my hand, but I still have pins and needle feeeling in my two fingers, could this be a problem from using LIPITOR, if so could someone email me. I also have had aches through my body but just thought it was from different crashes over the yrs.Does the group recomend me going back on LIPITOR or should I have my GP scrib something else? I would appreciate any info on this subject from the group.Bye for now muttlyzoo.

I hear lots of stories about the availability of Doctors in Canada. Most Canadians I talk with say they seldom have to wait long even for a specialist except in rare cases like for example a heart valve replacement. What is the truth about the availability of Canadian medicine? Here it typically takes me six weeks to two months for the first appointment with any specialist. I have HMO insurance. Guest guest
Hello Joe I live in Canada. As for waiting to see specilists or any doctor .... For me sometimes it has seemed to depend on how good a doctor is. Last winter I started seeing a Enviromental specialist. She has a long long waiting list; but then she has patients from all over Canada. When I phoned and got myself on her 3 year waiting list, I decided that if I still needed her in 3 years; she would be worth the wait. I know some of her patients as well as a few former patients. She has a reputation for getting her patients well; and from what I have seen in the last 6 months, it is well deserved. On the otherhand; an internationally famous doctor whom specializes in M.E. and CFS just doesn't take any patients at all half the time. Then when he has time for new patients, starts to see them again. He always has lots of patients so this on-again and off- again system seems to work for him. With him I was just lucky and happened to phone to see him at a time he had decided to start taking new patients again. I had phoned, even though my contacts all told me that he was unavailable, as he is very good and I figured 'what could I lose'. Right now I am looking for a half decent G.P. that has a reasonable open mind, and is fairly intelligent. I don't mind needed to 'educate' a doctor about an illness or condition; but object to those whom are closeminded. I can understand that some of them have a difficult time staying on top of all the new illnesses/conditions/disorders etc. But finding any G.P. in this city that will take new patients is almost impossible I am finding. On the other hand, I have not had to wait at all to see a couple of specialists for my son, and they were terrific. Some I have had to wait for months to see were terrible though. I have not been able to find any rhyme nor reason to this. I saw a thyroid specialist a few years ago; he was supposed to be the best in Ottawa. I only waited a few months. He was the dumbest, most arrogant, stupid, prejudiced, poorly informed, and close-minded doctor I have ever seen. Your hand and fingers sound like pheripheral neuropathy. On the otherhand it could just as easily be magnesium deficiency. [fact: 68 % of 'well' people are magnesium deficient. All ill people are magnesuim deficient.] It is also true that lack of magnesium will effect your blood insulin control - also a fact. [if anyone wishes to check this out;I have a good dozen or so very good links/urls on magnesium. I have been researching magnesium for the last year with a practising doctor whom has just writen a book on magnesium.] But regardless which is causing the problem with your hand and fingers; it can be cured [not 'helped' - cured] using transdermal magnesium chloride. This again is a fact. best wishes Shan > > > > Hello to all, I just joined the group, I live in Canada (TORONTO) and > > live off a government subsidy, also my meds are paid from this sub. Guest guest
I take Tricor and Welchol and my levels are a little higher than without them but still well within the normal range and I have taken them for almost 2 years now. I can't take statins though they work great and fast. I am allergic and have the bad side effects. Guest guest
I also did not like the side effects associated with Lipitor and took Cholestra the Lessman product sold on HSN. My doctor who had been reluctant but willing to monitor a test trial with it was so impressed, he will now offer alternatives to some of his patients. He even sells Red Rice Yeast extract at his office but requires regular testing and rigid diet monitoring. Some physicians are slowly coming around to nutricianial health. However insurance will not pay. The red rice yeast is a cheap way to go. Cholestra is not. My Hepatologist has no objection as long as the results are effective. Guest guest
Donna was questioning the use of Lipitor for her Cholesterol control. I do not know how high her readings are, but it was my understanding that PBC can cause higher Cholesterol levels but not the damage that normally is associated with high Cholesterol. Perhaps others can elaborate on this for us. Donna asked what over the counter drugs some of us use for pain. I for one do not take any. So far I have managed to get by without it, even with frequent bouts of Pleurisy and Pneumonia. With so many other meds many have to take its best to try and lighten the load on the liver.
