What does Ursodiol do for the liver?

I'm curious what exactly the ursodiol does for our livers. My hepa

doctor said it's a good liver tonic, my GI doctor who was the first to

prescribe it just said it helps your liver. I was dx almost a yr ago

with auto immune cholangitis stage 1. It does work, my LFT went back to

normal only after 3 weeks of taking the medicine, I was just wondering

if anyone had any more info. I never seem to get my questions answered

by the time my apt is over. This time I'm going to write down as many

questions as I can.
