Guest guest
Hi all - I frantically tried to search for information on narcotics, opiates, and other painkiller meds... but to no avail in the time I wanted to devote here at work. I've been given Oxycodone and other morphine derivatives in the hospital because they are less processed in the liver but yep, they are awfully addictive. I like them a lot - sigh. I *DID* just have a bad experience with vicodin though, made me sicker than most pain meds I've had - almost as bad as demerrol, which I used to get with liver biopsies and a splenectomy when I was small. ANYHOO, the vicodin was for oral surgery (oy!) and I hated it so went to taking x-strength tylenol. My GI told me that yeah, it's hard on the liver but to stay within the recommended dose. This is because NSAIDS (ibuprofen and aspirin) have the bleeding risk and that's just no good with varices. So I think it may be that the cluster of other physical problems dictates somewhat the pain meds. Here's a thought for headaches: have you tried massage, reflexology, or acupuncture? That works for a lot of people. As for colds, I listen to my mom, drink a ton of herbal tea, and go to bed. I don't feel any less miserable, but I feel more coddled. Shirl p.s. Has anyone else had a bad experience with naprosyn, anaprox, aleve? I had a VERY bad reaction to anaprox about four years ago. Just wondering.
