Hi Anne my name is Georgia. My son Dylan also suffers from eczema. Our Ped. prescribed Aclovate Cream 0.05%. It is by prescription only though but works great! Do you think she is allergic to the foam on her band? I would check with your doctor or Orthotist. Hopes this helps. Good luck.

Anne,

I have never dealt with this personally, but there has been a lot of

discussion about eczema within this group. I would suggest going to

the messages section and search the archive with the word eczema. I

think you will find all sorts of information that way. I'm sure you

will also receive alot of reponses with good advice as well. Just

make sure to check with CT before using any products that they did

not specifically mention when you got started.

Anne,

My daughter had cradle cap and I used to apply baby oil to her scalp

and then run a baby comb over the top of it to loosen it. I would

follow that with a good washing with baby shampoo.

Good luck!

Hi...well, you're not alone! I totally sympathize with your

situation. I have 11 mos old identical twins - both with moderate-

severe eczema :-( One of the twins has been wearing a STARBand since

January (started wearing the helmet when he was about 5 mos old). As

you probably already know, what your daughter is experiencing on her

scalp is probably not the generic " cradle cap " that many newborns

experience. I say this since you say she also has eczema. Both of

my boys had pretty severe scalp issues when their eczema started at

about 3 mos old. Both scalps would crust and weep and itch allllllll

over. Their pediatric derm then explained that this isn't baby

cradle cap, this is " eczema " in the scalp. Unfortunately, a lot of

the normal cradle cap remedies (oil in the scalp) didn't work at all

for us. The good news is that the scalp seemed to be the first part

of the body to " grow out " of the eczema. It took awhile, though -

probably about 4-5 mos. My boys are 11 mos old now and neither have

had ANY scalp issues in months. The only thing that kept it under

control was a peanut oil based corticosteroid that was prescribed by

their derm. We would apply it after a bath. It got us thru till

they grew out of it. Over the counter Sebulex shampoo also worked

great for the itching (although be CAREFUL with it since it's NOT

tear proof! We stopped using it once the boys started sitting up in

the bath tub for fear that it would get in their eyes!) The eczema on

the rest of the body (face and limbs), unfortunately is still here:-(

With regard to the helmet?? I'm getting the impression that we are

lucky in this regard... never sweats in it. And actually,

within a week of wearing the helmet, his scalp issues almost went

away! The only thing we could figure is that because of the helmet

he wasn't able to scratch his scalp. He never seemed to be bothered

by his scalp once he started wearing the helmet - and it cleared

within a week or two! He would get a few spots of crust on the top

of his head (where the helmet is open), but he never bothered with

the spots and we never treated them. Basically, the helmet helped

his scalp. His twin (no helmet) took longer to grow out of the scalp

stuff.

I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but I've come to the

conclusion that I can do my best to see if there's anything that I

can control in my son's environment that would help his eczema (food

triggers, etc.), but basically it seems as if I need to make my son

as comfortable as possible until he grows out of it. They are better

today then 6 mos ago, but I'm tired of it. I want it GONE! It

sucks, doesn't it?

PS...have you eliminated cow's milk or cow's milk based formula? We

went to Nutramigen back when they were about 7 mos old and within 2

days they started to clear! Within a week they were totally clear.

They stayed that way for about 2 weeks, then it came back, but NEVER

as bad as before the formula switch!! They used to have bloody,

weepy cheeks and blotchy skin all over the body before the switch:-(

It sucks!

Good Luck...

Hello! I just had to share my experience with the cradle cap on our

daughter, . She had real flaky spots on her scalp and a friend of mine,

who is a hair dresser, recommended a product. I tried it and within two

washings 's scalp was so much better. Now it is completely cleared up.

It's a product by Malibu, called " EC Mode " on the bottle it says ... " scalp

therapy shampoo " . The bottle I have is a dark blue color. Hope it helps

someone else!!

Anne:

My daughter's "cradle cap" ended up being plain 'ol itchy dandruff!!! Check with your doctor, but we now use Nizoral every second week. Works like a charm. No more flakes, no more itch. Check into it. We tried EVERYTHING we could think of for a year +!!!!

does anyone know a good way to treat cradle cap when a headband is being worn? Livia has terrible eczema and cradle cap and I am not sure how to get rid of it. I tried just about everything before she got her band and now I am not sure whether or not I can do anything for it. I am scared of wrecking the band with products soaking into the foam. We apply a cortisone cream on the eczema spots after bath time and then we put the band back on once it is completely soaked in. The cradle cap is causing her terrible itching and she is constantly gouging at the top of her head with her razor claws(They are so sharp and even if I cut them daily it makes no difference)any advice would be appreciated. The sweat on her head causes enough itching, she should not have to deal with this too!ThanksAnneFor more plagio info

Kass...

I am one of the old timers still around. I, too, could sympathize!! Vince wore his helmet for 12 months thru the winter AND summer. He also had severe eczema just as you described. We tried every kind of cream. Most did not work. He was also on steroids. That only took care of the oozing but the irritations continued. There for a while we even thought he was allergic to the adhesive in the helmet. We saw a derm at the Univ of Chic but they did not think it was food related. I did. She prescribed medicated shampoo and that made him worse. I was tired of the creams and strong meds so I tried a health food store. The recommend Flax Oil. It helped dramatically. I would mix it in his milk. These skin irritations are evidently caused by lack of omega 8 oils within the body. I would even massage in his scalp to soften the crusts. To this day everything has cleared. This type of oil is also good for brain development so it couldn't hurt. Belinda(Indiana)
