Thanks Joanne I found the info real informative. I am trying to lose weight. The first 30lbs came off pretty easy but the rest is taking forever. I hope to lose at least another 70lbs by the end of summer.

I hope all is well with you and that you are enjoying the summer.

Fitness and Fatty Liver

(Ivanhoe Newswire) - Metabolic syndrome has a new partner in crime.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the latest condition stemming

from

poor physical fitness and may threaten your health in the same dangerous

ways.

Being physically unfit can put you at risk of developing NAFLD - a disease

that causes the accumulation of fat in the liver, leading to high levels of

fat in the blood stream, amplifying the risk-factors of obesity. Like

alcohol abuse, NAFLD causes liver damage called fibrosis, which can lead to

cirrhosis.

In tests on rats, researchers found those bred to be physically unfit

displayed clear symptoms of NAFLD, including poor fat processing power, high

fat

retention, weakened cell mitochondria and other abnormalities. By the end

of their natural lives, the unfit rats sustained significant damage

including fibrosis and unexpected cell death. The fit rats, however, had

healthy

livers throughout their lives.

" Your personal aerobic fitness is not something you will see in the mirror

but it is an important predictor of your long-term health, " Thyfault,

Ph.D., the study's lead author from the University of Missouri in Columbia,

was quoted as saying. " The most important part of physical activity is

protecting yourself from diseases that can be fatal or play a significant

role

in increasing the risk factors for other metabolic diseases. "

Researchers say their results suggest NAFLD could potentially be treated or

prevented with a suitable exercise program.

they give us the prednisone we gain weight, I have hypothyroidism and multiple

other problems and then they tell me lose weight. ha.

I wish it were as easy as they think it is. My weight goes up and down like a

yoyo. I am on the losing side now and hope it stays that way for awhile. I need

to lose a lot more but every time I start losing weight I find something else

wrong with me. It seems like a vicious cycle sometimes.

I am just thankful that the medicine is working and my labs are good for right

now.

Yes, so far NALFD' has limited remedies -- weight loss, avoiding alcohol,

minimizing Prednisone.

However, even thin people can have fatty liver.

Being # 1 liver disease you would think there is some medication one could take

to reduce the problem. I all I hear is from my Gastro/Hepotologist is to loose

weight and don't drink (I never did drink!!). Yeah I should loose weight ,

but........

No standard treatment for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease exists. Instead,

doctors typically work to treat the risk factors that contribute to your liver

disease. For instance, if you're obese, your doctor will help you to lose weigh

through diet, exercise and, in some cases, medications and surgery. If a

medication is causing your fatty liver disease, your doctor will try to switch

you to a different medication.

Example.if you are

currently taking prednisone for AIH perhaps your doctor can switch you to Imuran

etc...............Jusat a thought . Hugs, Joanne (one of my grandsons is

Hi !

We live by Ft. Hood, it was my husband’s last duty station and we just stayed

here. If you are ever in the area visiting with your son, I would LOVE to

connect with you.

I was diagnosed with AIH in Nov 2009 and am now on Azathioprene. My doctors are

at & White in Temple, about 20 minutes from Ft. Hood.

I founded a local Support Group for people with Autoimmune Diseases and we meet

once a month for lunch!
