Imuran/Azathioprine?

I also take imuran for AIH. I had problems with predisone, so that was stopped.

When I was on only 50mg of imuran, it was not so bad. Due to flare up, imuran

was increased to 100mg. Over a year, this medication brought me to my knees.

Finally I suffered an infection and was stuck to bed for months. Also developed

all sorts of pains in my body. I got a break from it for few months, felt

better. Then another flare up. All the severe fatigue, weakness, pains, and

also strange headaches increased as well when imuran was increased back to

100mg. I was very depressed, and nearly died during this time. My doctor said,

I don't have any choice but to take imuran as otherwise I would be dead lot

faster. I am so frightened to have another flare up now as on 50mg of imuran,

my symptoms are bearable. In your case, just the feelings of sadness does not

sound too bad to me.

When you find the name of the new drug, can you please please post it here for

everyone. I really need to know about this drug. I even asked my doctor if

there was a better way to treat this illness, he said no.

I've been taking Imuran 100mg for 1yr and 4mos. April of this year my CK levels

went up to 758, they kept going up higher May through June. The highest was

1896. I started having muscle weakness in my legs around the end of April, it

felt like I had cement blocks for shoes and there was alot of pain in my thighs.

I also broke out in a rash that looked like mosquito bites only on my legs. I

had a muscle biopsy last month, I was dx with another autoimmune disease

myositis. The doctor can only treat it with Imuran, which I'm already on. Is

there anyone else who's had these same symptoms and are you having symptoms with

higher doses higher than 100mg?

I have AIH, gastroparesis, gerd, hypothyroid and myositis.

How many of you take this drug and do you have any side effects that go with

this? I took this pill for about 3 months and it sent me into a deep depression.

I didn't realize it was the meds until I was telling a friend about how I can't

shake this sadness all of a sudden and she asked me if I was on any new meds. I

called my doctor who told me to go off of it and see if the symptoms went away

and they did. So I stopped taking it (after telling my doc of course).

Well I started seeing a new hep and we would like me to start taking it again

because of a small spot of inflammation that he thinks we can control with the

azathioprine.

Now I'm scared because I remember how I felt the last time. I took a 1/2 dose

and vomitted that night so I stopped. I have to force myself to take this pill

because every bone in my body says don't take it. I don't take anything for the

AIH at this time.

Has anyone heard of a new med that hasn't been approved by the FDA yet. My

doctor said that it would be a good pill for me to take but it hasn't been

approved yet. I didn't write down the name and searches can't find anything. I'm

waiting for my doc to call me back.

Any input or advice would be appreciated.
