After reading this letter, It made me want to go to the convention

even MORE. I loved the way you said " there are some who can't or

won't accept you for you, oh well, their loss (but someone else's

gain too, hehe) " I'll have to remember that when I give people

advice about rejection. :o) I'm hoping to go next year in Canada.

I have never been to a convention before. This will be a very

interesting experiance! But I have to say, I am VERY nervous. I have

some doubts too. But I'm still looking forward to it anyways.

(then people can see who I really am...not usually a B***h)

Dear Barry*, First, welcome:). Second, my advice? What are you

waiting for? hehe Experience L.P.A.!:). Where there is a bevy of nice

short-statured women! What's neat is that they come in a gadzillion

sizes and types too with as many hearts and personalities to match:).

Third, most imortantly, be yourself. And if there are some who can't

or won't accept you for you, oh well, their loss (but someone else's

gain too, hehe). Fourth, bring your daughters for as much as they're

a part of you they're a part of us as many of us also have average

sized siblings, children, bf's/gf's, parents and spouses too. They

are always welcome:). Fifth, take one step at a time, as the late

Hoagy Carmichael once said, " Slow motion will get you there faster. "

That quote is so true:). Sixth, Contribute, contribute, contribute!

No. I'm not talking about donating money, lol. I mean, contribute

yourself to LPA, because as with any group you get out of it what you

put into it. So, as much as you probably want to know us, we want to

know you as well:). Seventh, as with any other group too, take what

you like and leave the rest. We all may be small like each other, but

we're still different from one another. A good point to remember.

Lastly, L.P.A. is a great support group in sharing your needs and

concerns as most (if not all) of us have gone through what you have

gone through too in some way or another.

Is your cirrhosis secondary to AIH or PBC? As I understand it, cirrhosis of

the liver is more of a manifestation, a result, of another disease rather

than a disease in itself.

>Anyone out there?

Hi, I am new to this group & still don't understand much about this

liver disease. Oh, I had a liver biopsy 10/2006. I have Primary

Biliary Cirrohis & Autoimmune Hepatitis (OVERLAP) - Grade 4 - Stage 2.

I still don't know why there is a grade & stage; all I've ever heard

is about people with cancer, & the diagnosis is never grade? always,

stage whatever. When I was going through the testing, blood,

ultrasound,colonoscopy,liver biopsy,etc., I remember the doctor's

office calling me & as they were ruling out different illness, I was

told that I tested negative for hepatitis, then after biopsy it showed

autoimmune hepatitis I was a little confused. I hate to complain, but

especially at this time (holidays), I don't have any support from my

family which makes my stress level unbelievably high. As I've read

through so many emails, it breaks my heart to see that even small

children are what I would consider diagnosed with so much at such a

young age. Anyway, wishing each & everyone of you a very blessed

Thanksgiving, & how blessed you already are if you've been included in

traditional Thanksgiving get together's with your loved ones.

Sincerely,

Hi,

just a little comment...

What they probably meant was that you tested negative for the

more common, contagious viral forms of hepatitis, alcoholic

hepatitis etc.

Autoimmune hepatitis is just what the name suggests: an

autoimmune disease. That means the cause is unknown, also it is

not contagious. Basically, the diagnosis autoimmune hepatitis can

be given when other causes for liver inflammation have been ruled

out.

AIH is a rare condition, and people with AIH often have other

autoimmune diseases as well (rheumatism, Crohn's disease,

Sjogren's syndrome/SLE, problems with the thyroid gland etc.) so

in a way AIH is more related to that type of conditions.

Hope that clarifies it a bit - for more information, try

searching the net for autoimmune hepatitis.

Wishing you all the best,

Jaana

, it is my understanding that the stage indicates the degree of fibrosis

and the grade indicates the degree of inflammatory activity. " Staging, in the

broadest sense, is the determination of the position of the patient on the

continuum of disease progression between its initiation and its end stage.

Grading is the assessment of the activity of a disease, which is the rate at

which the disease stage is changing " per a Medscape article.
