Dear Michele -- I also live in FL and found that there are very few doctors with experience with dwarfism here. However, I happened to luck upon the great family doctor in the world and he is the one who helped me. He fought my insurance company into letting me have s Hopkins as in network care. He " lectured " me into making sure I didn't let anyone but them touch me. Granted, I still had the responsibility of getting to Baltimore but that was minor compared to having someone know what they're doing. (I had a local neurosurgeon who refused to take care of my pain management correctly because I wouldn't let him operate on me. He kept saying " You're foolish for waiting 2 months when I can do it NOW! " Of course, he had only worked on 4 or 5 dwarfs in his lifetime while Ain & Rigamonti work on 4 or 5 dwarfs a day.) Where in FL are you? I'm in Orlando area so I know what is here -- nada. However, I think Jax might be better since they have the Mayo up there and I've heard Tampa has folks. Also, don't hesitate in contacting Dee at Hopkins for references. Good luck and please keep up posted with your progress. Rose
Guest guest
Good Morning Members: I have been for the past 6 years trying to locate a Orthopedic Specialist & Neurologist and a Anesthesiology in the State Of Florida that I can build a rep ore with and monitor my developing situation as times goes by. Let me mention my form of dwarfism is SED and I am 38 year female. But after numerous callings all over the place for the last 6 years. I have come to the the conclusion at this point (a very scary conclusion I might add) that there is NO specialist that I mentioned above that have dealt with dwarfism within the State of Florida? I know there is alot of us that reside in Florida I need to ask for all of your assistance and tell me how you personally established a Specialist here in Florida? I really need all your assistants ideas all that can help will be much appreciated. To be quite honest I am kinda freaking out about all this within myself. And I truly need all our members that can assist me and alleviate my anxiety about this and finally find a solid solution. I only have Blue Cross/Blue Shield HMO. How do People do it here in Florida? Please email me privately w/ your solution or suggestions. Many Thanks Michele
Guest guest
My father moved to Florida a few years ago and he has SED also and recently had knee replacement surgery down there. But I will inform you that my family and I do not always work with with specialists who are familar with dwarfism, because it is rare. Instead we look for specialists who are able to work with the individual and their particular needs. Also we look for specialists that have a good sucess rates for orthopedic issues. Let me contact him to see what he suggests! a > > Good Morning Members: I have been for the past 6 years trying to locate > a Orthopedic Specialist & Neurologist and a Anesthesiology in the State > Of Florida that I can build a rep ore with and monitor my developing > situation as times goes by. Guest guest
Here in Florida it is hard to find a good doctor but if you can get on Staywell and/or Medicaid you can usually find decent doctors.
