Guest guest
Good to hear from you, April! Hope everyone gets better at your house soon! I hope your plastic surgeon will have nothing but good news for you about Bri, and I hope your ortho will have some good explanations for you. How frustrating it must be!! ( I know you're worried about Bri's motor skills, but she sounds like Hanna was at her age. I wouldn't be overly worried, but as always, if you are concerned, and EI eval is never a waste! Let us know what you decide. I wish I could join you all for your gathering. It would be nice to meet other plagio families. I have met 2 other families over the past year, but no group gathering. I think that would be really fun. Thanx for the update, and please let us know what your PS & ortho say!!! Let me start out by saying WELCOME TO ALL NEW MEMBERS. We have been thru quite a bit here lately with the Flu, Strep Throat (Mandy), Bronchitis and a barage of other things. I am starting to question the helmet that Bri is in. I am not noticeing much change and she has been in hers since March 22, 2000. I am really concerned because they haven't had to peel any layers of foam yet. She goes for a fitting on Monday and I will ask them then if this is out of the ordinary. The plastic sergeon who is taking care of my wrist is going to look at the MRI films for me and go over them with me. I told him I wanted to pick his brain about helmets and such and he told me to bring them with me for him to check. For those who are new he did his training out west and saw about 4 or 5 cases of Plagio and/or Cranio a week. He recognised the helmet and asked about it the first time I met him.I did have some concerns about if I should call Early Intervention or let nature take its course. Bri is 10 1/2 mths old and can do and ok job of staying in a sitting position once put there but can't get there on her own. She still gets around by rolling as she can't crawl yet or pull herself up onto furniture. She can however support her weight on her legs and when being supported will take a few steps. Her knees still snap and pop every time she moves. She still hasn't popped any teeth thru either. Amy in Mass. if you could send me the phone number of the office you called I would be grateful I am pretty sure we would have the same one being that we are only about 20 min. apart. I am also still trying to get a central place for the Massachusetts get together what do all concerned parties think of getting together at a zoo with the little cuties? Let me know what you think.Have a great weekend everyone,April In Massachusetts,Mommy to Bri (Helmet since 3/22/01) and Mandy For more plagio info
Guest guest
Hey April-sorry you are so frustrated I am sure it doesn't help when you see posts of fast progress and unexpected graduations but don't give up yet. Bri may just be having a quiet period but I am sure that you will see growth it may just take some time. Has Bri adjusted to the helmet or are having difficulty which has added to your frustration? I would encourage you not to give up-there are others that have started later than you and earlier than you and their kids have been banded for 5 months so try and hold out a little longer. Do you have before pictures and measurements? Have you compared them to recent ones? What luck to have the surgeon who is taking care of your hand also to help you and to have seen so many plagio babies before that is so wonderful. KUDOS to the DR:-) As far as the developmental delays- I would call Early Intervention definitely. IT cant hurt and would put your mind at ease on way or the other so I would do it. Let us know how it goes. Please. I am sorry to hear that you've had so much going on lately but hopefully this means you are on the mend to brighter days. I just encourage you to keep plugging along. Good luck and keep your chin up you are doing a great job. Beck Mom to Memphis, TN
Guest guest
Hi April, You are doing the right thing by having Bri's condition revisited. It never hurts to get someone else's perspective. Has Bri had any noticable growth spurts recently? I would definately quiz the orthotist about the helmet. Do you have before photos or the head mold to compare with? That might help you to note progress or lack thereof. Let us know what the neuro says and in the meanwhile checking out EI is a great idea!
