I know that not all results are typical, but ... my co-worker is 4 years post lap band. She had it done and lost 85 pounds, she's still over 100 pounds overweight, the lap band has closed up, causing food to stay in her esophagus (sp) and now has to have the band removed. She's not going to get it put back in nor go with the bypass, she's going to join with me and lose this weight the healthy way :) Right now she's on an all liquid diet until her lapband removal surgery. I'd think long and hard before getting any of that surgery done.ABrite@... wrote: In a message dated 4/6/2008 5:10:24 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, jacquelinerocco writes: I'm still overweight . Yeah it did sting. Not like he wasn't stating the obvious. I already knew it just never said it out loud. Maybe to myself a gazillion times. I've been overweight pretty much my whole life. Skinny til jr high. Something's gotta give. JackieABrite@... wrote: In a message dated 4/6/2008 5:56:32 P.M. That was such a slap in the face. Ahhhhh - yeah, then you would definitely need to look into the requirements. I am sure they all vary. I remember seeing all the obese comments in my charts, that does sting, but good for you getting on a plan and working on it now. I started over 300 lbs and finally got to 249 this week - yippie! Hi Jackie, I must admit that I have looked into the lap band as well, and I actually have had 2 appointments set up in the past 2 months to get more information, unfortunately I have had to reschedule both of them.. ( Yes sue I know lecture time right?!?!? LOL). I do know though that I do not meet my current insurance requirements. That would be 2 weight loss attempts in the past 5 years that have been documented like weight watchers or jenny craig. One of the 2 has to be doctor supervised. Sooo in the mean time it is onward and downward on my own. a

I'm just curious since you gals are talking about this, or for anyone else that knows. a (I think it was) mentioned having to have two attempts at weight loss in xx amount of time.... how long do you have to give that to "work" or "not work"

What (or more importantly WHO) determines if it is working or not? Slow loss is still losing, or would it be you gave it "honest effort" for 6 months and did not lose a thing?? Do they (medical person, since this is supposed to be doctor supervised) look through your food log/journal and say yeah, but you could cut this, this and this out of your eating, etc?

My doctor (jerk at times) says losing .5 - 2 lbs a MONTH is ok in his book, so he would never qualify anyone from that stand point, as long as they recorded any loss. Shrug.

I'm just curious.

Good luck a. My insurance will pay if my weight is a health issue. Which it is. I'm just waiting for recertification to be approved so I don't start the process for no reason. Hi , For my insurance you first off have to have a certian BMI, not sure how low that is since mine is like 53 at the moment. The weight loss attempts have to be 12 weeks. Which to me sounds really stupid, but it is part of the requirement. The Dr supervised one I think is more of a *their* Dr supervised like the Optifast/Medifast program, but will find out more information in May if I don't have to reschedule for some stupid reason. From what I understand if you go to your Dr he has to have a plan, and you have to have an appointment every week during those 12 weeks that are for weight loss only. It all has to be documented. As far as working or not, I don't know how that is determined, other then you lost and gained back. Again I am sure I will get more info on that in May. As far as other criteria.... I don't know

because I am sure I meet those just fine. I have had high blood pressure and on medication for it since I was 12, I have sleep apnea, reflux, am type II diabetic, asthamatic, and arthritic. I am sure I sound like I am falling apart!~ LOL... a

Thanks for the info on the surgery you are "looking into" - it doesn't hurt to be educated.

Me? I'm researching "boob jobs", tummy tucks and lipo LOL!! I am so "there" for having surgery when I am done if my body needs tweaked <wink>

Do you still have stitches/stapes in it? If so, you probably aren't

supposed to be showering. It probably would be wise to check with the dr.

Hi Jackie - Personally, I'd take it very easy the rest of tonight and

tomorrow. First thing on Monday morning I'd call the surgeon's office and

tell him/her what's going on. I think I'd check my temperature a couple

times also to be sure an infection isn't setting in. Hugs, Di

Your doctor might be able to talk the company into giving u the drugs for

free.  Mine did although I was a non responder.  Even try calling the

companies and talking with them.  If u get on disability, you will be eligible

under the Medicare program.  I am a firm believer in herbs and take many but

the most important is milk thistle.

Hopefully this will give u a start.  Mine didn't turn to cancer for 30 years so

am writing this from Costa Rica, probably my last time out of the country and

enjoying the heck out of it.

Keep the faith

Your in the right place. Everyone in here is very helpful. Your not alone. I

found out about 9mo. ago and still have my days of denial but my not feeling

good all the time brings me back to the world to. I'm getting ready to start

treatment anytime, just waiting for the medicines to arrive. I have a dr. app.

on tuesday to get some shots for other stuff and sign some more papers. I

scared, no I'm petrified but I figure that I'm sick all the time now and if this

works it will be worth it. Don't ever be afraid to ask a question in here, as a

matter of fact ask alot of them, if someone don't already know the answer they

will help you find it.

Good morning everyone,

Bloodwork is still coming back looking good so far. I haven't been feeling the

greatest but the dr. says that's normal. I still have approx. 42 weeks left of

treatment that is as long as everything continues to go well. Today is another

shot day so I have to get everything done before I do it that needs to be done

because if I don't do much of anything except take care of my puppy then it

don't seem to hit me as hard but when I try to get the house work done and other

stuff I end up reall sick in bed for two days so I'm slowly learning what I can

and can't do while taking this stuff.

Thank you all for all the thoughts and prayers, you have all been in my thoughts

and prayers as well.

Take care and God bless

Kay< I told Jackie the same thing about not to worry about taking some pain

meds to get by on. You know there is nothing a person can do if you are in

pain. Is your back any better?

I am about the same, some good and bad days, just keep plugging along and love

when I get a good day.

I have a question, Do most people that have a tx have a donor that is a family

member? Is there an age, where a relative can not be a donor?

Thanks Kay for always doing more than your share in keeping the awareness of PBC

out there.

Mgt ND

Sorry I sent this at first to you Kay and not the group. Remember I am new at

this site.
