Devanee--

Since you said your docs recommended that you be off prednisone during

pregnancy, I didn't mention the results I found on it. But, with what

others have posted, I will. Prednisone crosses the placenta. Taking

prednisone one month prior to becoming pregnant and in the first

trimester is when the risk of cleft palate is highest. Prednisone can

also cause mental retardation and fatal adrenal hypoplasia. In

pregnant women it can cause hypertension, gestational diabetes and

osteoporosis. The United States FDA gives it a " B " . The review

article's conclusion recommends the lowest possible dose if necessary,

and avoidance in the first trimester. The low doses discussed were 5

mg. A high, risky dose is 20 mg. Anyhow, I hope this helps. At least

you'll be able to ask your docs more specific questions. Best of luck.

Thank you Cheryl. That is great information. Do you mind if I ask

where you got that info so I can use it as a referrence when I talk

to my docs?
