Guest guest
Kathy, I am butting in here, but my doc told me to stay away from non-processed cheeses such as feta, brie, and blue cheese. They contain bacteria, which is harmless to someone with a normal immune system but can be very dangerous to someone with a suppressed immune system. By the way, I've been on imuran since June and have had no problems with it. I take 100 mg imuran and only 2.5 mg prednisone and my liver enzymes are normal except when I am having a bout of acute pancreatitis. I've got chronic pancreatitis in addition to AIH, so the bouts of acute pancreatitis are quite common for me.
Guest guest
Thanks . How unfortunate that two of my favourite cheeses are feta and brie- boo hoo! Glad to hear that imuran has not affected you. That is my one big worry! Guest guest
, If you can find brie and camembert that is made with pasteurised milk, they are much more 'friendly' than the non-pasteurised ones. Daryl can safely eat Australian cheeses (not blue cheese) because our milk must be pasteurised by law. Just thought you might like to know that! *grin* anne Re: [ ] imuran and a suppressed immune system Kathy, I am butting in here, but my doc told me to stay away from non-processed cheeses such as feta, brie, and blue cheese. Guest guest
anne, I don't really like any of the non-processed cheeses, so it's not a problem for me. I absolutely hate blue cheese and brie. Feta cheese is okay, but I can live without it. However, Kathy may be glad to see your post. Now, if they told me I couldn't eat cheddar or colby jack, I'd have a problem. I often live off of that because I can often tolerate cheese and crackers when I am having trouble tolerating much of anything with protein.
