Cora,

I think I'd opt for having the cyst removed. At least the one that got

infected. I would never want to go through what you went through! I had

one removed from the top of my head after it had been bothering me off and

on for nearly 30 years. It got infected once but then opened on its own.

However, when it got infected, I was VERY healthy. That was in 1991, 5

years before my lupus diagnosis. At this point, with lupus, AIH, chronic

pancreatitis, type II diabetes, autoimmune clotting disorder, and an IgG

deficiency (which puts me at greater risk for infections), your story made

me VERY glad I had the cyst removed in January 2003 when I had my

port-a-cath put in. They didn't even totally put me to sleep for it. They

used conscious sedation for the port-a-cath. I don't really remember any of

it. For my head, they woke me up and the anesthesiologist used novacaine.

It didn't really hurt because I was pretty loopy and relaxed. He did a few

injections and I could still feel around the cyst, so he did more. After

that I fell back asleep and the next thing I remember was waking up in my

room with the nurses asking if I wanted something to drink. My head never

did really hurt. It itched a little on the last day before they took the

stitches out but that was all. I don't think he got all the cyst because it

still bothers me off and on, but nothing like it did before. In fact, it

just dawned on me that it hasn't bothered me in several weeks. I just tried

to feel where it was and I could barely even feel it. Maybe what was left

of it finally went away on its own.

I had both the flu and pneumonia vaccine a week ago. The arm they gave the

flu shot in hurt like the dickens that night and the next day. Ice helped a

good bit, though.

take care,

W

Thanks for your thoughts. I've never had the flu shot before. The

pneumonia shot didn't really hurt. The needle was very tiny -

didn't even feel it go in, the medicine burned a little bit.

I get the flu shot every year now and I think I am due for my pnuemonia shot this year. Of course last year I got pnuemonia 3 times so maybe this year will be better.
