Benadryl is used for allergies, sometimes I have to give it to my

dog. It makes U very tired and sleepy. Kels uses Tylenol for

headahces and fevers, she cannot use Ibruprophen.

What do U use the Benadryl for Elaine?

Hi Trish

Yes Benadryl is used for allergies but it also relieves cold symptoms. It does make you sleepy but if the cold is bad enough to require treatment then sleeping is not a bad thing :o). Tylenol is ok in moderation but it's one of the drugs, along with ibruprophen, that all of my doctors--hepatologist, PCP, and oncologist all warned me about using very sparingly.

For your info, when I had my cancer surgery the doctors at Sloan Kettering did rather extensive research into which anesthesia and pain relief drugs were safe for me. I don't know what they used for anesthesia and in the hospital I had an epidural for pain. They sent me home with oxycoton and told me morphine and its derivatives are the safest for the liver.

Gosh Trish I have no idea but please do share whatever you find out. Since your daughter is so young I realize the morphine drugs are out of the question. Why does she get headaches so frequently?

I know Oxycoton is but I'm not sure what else. Codeine is ok to use. These drugs can make you nauseous and can be addictive if misused so they are not without risk either.

TY Elaine,

AS for O/C drugs, what else can be used otherthan Tylenol and

Ibruprophen for fever and headaches? Im taking Kels in tomorrow to

see our family doctor, shes great! Even with the holidays, I call

today and get her in tomorrow am at 10. We are so damn lucky! I will

mention this to her and see what she can recommend, even a

prescription drug might be better fro Kels' headaches. She does get

headaches about every two days. Thanks for the information!

I think Kels gets her headaches from the fatugue.

I think Shirl's suggestions were good--acupuncture, maybe some yoga?? Maybe the doctor will have some other suggestions too. I sure hope so.

I think Kels gets her headaches from the fatugue. She will NOT slow

down and rest as she should. She says Im a kid, we dont rest mom. Or

she says...Im a kid I want to be a kid not sleep all the time, so she

doesnt. Once she has a sleep or a good nights sleep shes fine. She is

stubborn as hell. Her eye sight is good. I just told her shes seeng

the doctor tomorrow and shes not happy with me. Her tummy is really

rounded and shes pale, tired. I will be the bad mom from hell for

the next two days I guess. LOL beats having her in the hospital!! I

will be sure to pass on any info I get tomorrow.

I was picking up Kels today from a sleepover at her freinds, her

friends mom has Lupus along with many other immune ailments so I

trust this mom so much with Kelsey, shes been thru all the yucky meds

and when Kels saw how many pills Michele takes at breakfast she just

gave a HUGE hug. Anyhow, Michele mentioned that she uses an

O/C drug called MERSYNDOL, here is what she told me:

Hi Trish,

I looked up an empty bottle of Mersyndol and here is a

list of ingredients:Acetaminophen 325mg,codeine phosphate

8mg,doxylamine succinate 5 mg.It says Analgesic with codeine.

I don't usually send emails but I wanted you to be able to tell your

Mom about this.Tell Kelsey we all enjoyed her and it seems so

different without her here now.

Talk to you later Michele

Now we are in Ontario, Canada so Im not sure if its available in

other countries. I will ask my doctor about this tomorrow for Kelsey

too but I doubt it will be okayed due to the Codeine

Will keep U informed about tomorrow,

Trish

A vulcan. LMAO That was great!! I will show Kelsey this post.

I try so hard to teach Kels that being different isnt such a bad

thing but she says U are telling me that cause ur my mom, U HAVE to

be nice to me and love me the way I am. Some times I dont know what

to tell her. Its like anything I say is no comfort to her once she

heads to school and deals with crap like this.
