About six weeks after my esophagectomy I began having

swallowing problems. My problems were the direct

result of scar tissue forming at the surgical site.

I hope this is not the problem in your case. I also

had a Vagotomy and as a result have the dumpming

syndrome you spoke of. Hope your ditatation goes well.

Hi Beth

Poor you that is awful! Have you tried different doctors and got a

second opinion? Are they are taking the most aggressive approach to

getting rid of it they can? If not, why not? Sometimes I think they

try to be cautious and take out as little as possible of the ear

bones, to preserve hearing, but that gives you a greater risk of

reinfection. Guess you have had a mastoidectomy by now? My brother

also had lots of operations (about 10) and the mastoidectomy was the

one that finally cured it, they held off doing it for ages and if he

had had it earlier, he could have been saved a lot of trauma.

Good luck, I really hope this will be your last surgery, fingers

crossed for you.

When I read stories like this, I realize that one is not even safe going to

church as long as people are taking these drugs. How tragic.

Orchestra Conductor Kills Self After Cathedral Standoff

By LAURA WIDES, AP

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (Dec. 17) -- The veteran conductor of the Crystal

Cathedral's orchestra shot himself to death Friday at the landmark church after

a

nine-hour standoff that began when he opened fire as congregants prepared for a

Christmas pageant.

AP

Police block entrance to Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif.

No one else was injured.Fifty-seven-year-old nie Carl, the orchestra's

conductor for 29 years, had barricaded himself in a bathroom and shot himself at

about 2 a.m. as police officers tried to talk to him. Carl, who also had a

successful recording career, had grappled with depression, authorities said.He

had fired about four shots in his office, and it did not appear he was trying

to hit anybody, police said. Children in a day care center were rushed to

safety. The cathedral, a huge, sprawling structure of glass and steel not far

from

Disneyland, is home to the Rev. Schuller's international Crystal

Cathedral Ministries and claims a congregation of more than 10,000 members. The

internationally televised ''Hour of Power'' is broadcast from there.

The first shots were fired shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday, less than two

hours before the scheduled start of the cathedral's annual ''Glory of

Christmas''

holiday show, for which Carl had arranged the prerecorded music. The two

Thursday shows were canceled. The 78-year-old Schuller, who was at home when the

shooting happened, came to the command post police set up near the cathedral and

taped a message for Carl. Police did not have the chance to play it or another

message from the Carl's wife, but they did play one from a friend who had

helped Carl in the past, police said.Schuller spokesman Nason said Carl

had arranged or recorded music for artists including Celine Dion, Tesh,

Crawford and the London Symphony. Among the records he contributed to

were Dion's ''These are Special Times'' and Tesh's ''Live from Red Rocks.''Nason

said Carl had talked to him in the past about feeling despondent - ''just a

sense of personal pressures, job, and things around him, dealing with people

around him.''In a statement, Schuller hailed his friend as ''a creative genius

whose beautiful arrangements and superb conducting set new levels of excellence

for sacred music. His music brought joy to the millions of viewers around the

world who watch the Crystal Cathedral's 'Hour of Power' television program

each week.''The cathedral's Christmas pageant draws visitors from around the

world. It includes Christmas carols, live animals and special effects such as

flying angels.Schuller arrived in Garden Grove in 1955, founding a local

Reformed

Church in America congregation. He gained international fame when he rented

the Orange Drive-in theater and began conducting Sunday services from the roof

of the snack bar.As his congregation grew rapidly, he launched plans to build

the cathedral, which was designed by famed architect Philip and his

partner, Burgee. The cathedral, 128 feet high and 415 feet long, was

completed in 1980.His son Schuller is also an ordained minister

and

preaches at the cathedral. Schuller has designated him as his successor.Carl is

survived by his wife, , and three children.12-17-04 1048 EST

So sorry to hear this, . Not easy at all!! Have they or you any

idea what is causing you to go through the hips so fast?

here we go again

just back from seeing my surgeon, and here we go again. This revised

hip has been loose for over a year now. A month ago it was

uncomfortable, but manageable. I could have carried on for a decade

like that. Something's changed, though, and the pain's been getting

worse and worse for the past month, leaving me lounging on the sofa and

stoned on painkillers. No way to live, is it?

So... I've been scheduled for my second revision of my THR. Gah. 36

years old and worn out two hip replacements already. The good news is

that it should be soon, in two months time, but I have to confirm that

later in the week.

thanks!

It's the usual reasons: youth, activity (lots of it), rotten leg/pelvic bones

that only grow in the wrong direction, and bad luck.

Van Dyk, 43, tossed his two sons, ages 4 and 8, to their deaths

around 8:20 a.m., Miami Beach Police spokesman Bobby said.

Authorities

did not release the names of the two boys.

The children's mother, Qinuo, 40, was not physically injured. said

the family was vacationing from Alton, Illinois, at the Loews Hotel in South

Beach, where the couple were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary.

Qinuo Van Dyk heard one of her children screaming from an adjacent hotel

said.

When she looked over the railing she saw her husband and two children lying

on the mezzanine roof, which is about two floors off the ground.

past six months, but had not been arguing right before the incident,

said.

That will NOT fly. If it does pass, it will be challenged in court and

found to be unconstitutional. A sickness that is air-born or otherwise

spreads, sometimes like wildfire, through a population, is one thing.

But a dis-ease that depends on personal choice, as in whether or not to

have pre-marital/promiscuous sex, no way. They will never get the thing

accomplished, or if they do, as I say, it will be challenged and found

unconstitutional by the courts.

By the way, I heard on the radio the other day that another state was

starting to do random checks of high school students for alchohol

content in their bodies---I suppose with a breath test---not sure. But

there the ACLU was calling the test " an invasion of privacy. " So where

is the voice of the ACLU in this situation with mandatory vaccination

for cervical cancer? Is that not definitely an invasion of privacy?

It seems that I'm experiencing the ups and downs of AIH. I've had fevers,

fatigue and bloating for a week and yesterday blood tests show that my bili is

up and so are my enzymes. I was doing so well that two weeks ago my doctor

lowered my prednisone from 20mg to 15mg. Now I'm waiting to hear from my doctor

what the next step is.

I'm frustrated, disappointed, mad and a tad scared. Is this what my life will be

like in the years to come?

Just had to get this off my chest.
