Guest guest
I'm sorry to keep whining but I have another problem you may be able to help me with. I have been lifting heavy (for me its heavy) with legs in an attempt to build more muscle there. Now my knees hurt when I bend them past 90 degrees. Not a sharp or excruciating pain but a dull pain. I can't possibly be lifting too much could I? I am not that strong yet. I'm lifting 230# if I am adding right (2X45# plus 25# on each side). I use the leg press machine since my doctor advised me to stop doing squats (older female problems). Any ideas? You all had such wonderful ideas about my numb toes. Thank you for that. ~Laury
Guest guest
-Laury; It's terrible to hurt where you don't want to. First make sure your form is good. Keep your knees inline with your toes (never let your knees pass your toes), move the weight smoothly- no bouncing or jerking. Do not bend below a 90 degree angle. If your form has been good then lighten up for a while and take anti-inflamatories and ice treatments. Also check when you are pushing the weights that the weight is on your heals and your feet are flat. Note exactly were the pain is: to the side of the knee--under the cap etc. Boy I hope this helps and you recup guickly. Guest guest
Thanks , I have had my form checked by several different trainers and they all said it is perfect. I am pushing with my heels and do a two count up, hold then four count down very smoothly. I might have to stop increasing the weight until my legs get used to this. But thanks again. ~Laury
Guest guest
Thanks Z, The pain is all day long and I will try positioning my feet a little differently next time. Thanks. ~Laury
Guest guest
a, I only lift 90# on my leg extensions so I can't see how that would do it. But I hadn't thought of that as a cause. I will look into it. Thanks. ~Laury
Guest guest
Probably Tendonitis. Where on/in your knee? Just above, just below, behind the knee cap, inside? If it is tendonitis it's time to hit the Glucosomine/Chondroiton combo or MSM capsules. -Nic In a message dated 31-May-00 10:48:00 Eastern Daylight Time, laury5313@... writes: << I'm sorry to keep whining but I have another problem you may be able to help me with. Guest guest
Lock knees: no. Straighten: yes. no hyperextension.
Guest guest
This is probably a dumb question, but just in case... do you lock your knees when you leg press? (do you completely extend them so that they are straight when you push the weight?) if that's the case, then maybe that's the reason for the pain. YOu shouldnever lock your knees, just extend them but keep your knees a bit bent. Hope that helped... Merced >> No, I do not lock my knees. I keep constant tension on the muscle throughout the set. Thanks for the input though. ~Laury

It is done on a machine. ~Laury
Guest guest
It may be the running. If you increase your speed or mileage too quickly sometimes your knees pay the price. Do you have something else that you could do for cardio? Maybe another machine? Try alternating your cardio activities instead of running every time. It could also be the grade on the treadmill. Are you running flat or do you have it set on an incline? A steep incline could make it a little tougher on your knees. Take care of your knees and don't keep doing something that really hurts them. If you have a muscle imbalance, the BFL weight training should eventually help to balance your quads and hamstrings and stabilize your knee better. Maybe at some point it won't hurt to run. Just don't overdo it in the meantime. sore knees Ok what am I doing wrong. I have sore knees most of the time after my cardio day. I am only W2. I love the cardio day and I run on the treadmill, maybe it is the treadmill.?Anyone else find this or have tips for me?
Guest guest
With my RTHR my left knee became very sore and swollen. After I regained a normal gait, the knee was okay. Also you may not be using your knee as much on your operated side. With my LTHR, I was afraid to bend my knee. No reason for that! 3 weeks is not a long time for everything to be back to normal. 3 months is more like it. If it is still sore then tell your doc. Guest guest
OOPS! Forgot to answer about the PT! I did not have any PT other than the hospital. Went straight home and never looked back. However I have had PT since the THR and it is a very good idea. Guest guest
when my pain is at it's worse I draw a tub of hot water and just soak. The heat getting into my joints really helps. I have been known to soak for an hour or more because it feels so good I don't want to get out. taking a damp towel and placing it in the microwave to heat it and then wrapping around the joints also feels good and relieves the pain, I do this when it's only 1 or 2 joints hurting. the WV hillbilly ann haston <st.abbs@...> wrote: Hello everyone, I get terrible pains in all my joints and also on both shins, sometimes they are not so bad but othertimes they are soooo sore, seemingly it's the prednisolone. regards, Ann __________________________________________________________ Answers - Got a question?
