Guest guest
Shirlee - Just read you q on red meat. I won't get heavy in the explanation as I don't know if some one else has already answered you q. When the liver is no longer functioning at a healthy level it becomes very difficult for it to break down or process protiens. I beleive what Jerry told me is it raises your amonia levels in your blood, maybe albumin too. But with the amonia increase you put yourself at risk for encephelopathy - which can range from brain fog to coma. So it is important for those who are on the transplant list to limit protein and often have to take some sort of potent laxative to insure food moves through quickly so as not to raise the amonia level. But for those who are in no way ready yet for the tx list ususally don't need to worry about red meats or proteins - except for the normal 'animal fat' avoidance that any healthy person should be doing anyway. I hope I answered your question well enough, I tend to not do it well some times. But then again when I do my dear sweet friend Jerry lets me know! (How did I do Jerry?) Guest guest
Just a note - I've been on Prednisone since January of 2002. Down to 2.5 prednisone but up to 75 mg Imuran. Yes my diabetes was medicine induced - Imuran or Prednisone take your pick!!! Probably Prednisone. I am almost in the zone my doctor wants me to be in (70 to 110) I hope I can stay there. Not much fun eating almost nothing. I am overweight so it will be nice to have a few lbs drop off. Hope this weather holds for the wedding. Hawaiin luau after. what a deal. Have to take something so am trying to figure that out. May take my Raspberry salad but it is more of a dessert and cake is enough!!! any suggestions anyone? Guest guest
Yes I was put on the Imuran in the fall of 2001 and started at 150 then I began having a bunch of problems with panic attacks and light headedness and my LFT's went up so at first he left me at 7.5 mg. of Pred and upped the Imuran twice until I was at 250 of it, when the numbers still kept going up he then began to play with the Pred. (This was the 'twit', the first hep) up to 50 and back down to 20 and then up to 30 and up again to 50, all the time I was on the 250 of Imuran. This new guy dropped the Imuran to 200 and the Pred to 25 and amazingly I have normal LFT's for the first time in a year and a half. He is leaving me on the 200 of Imuran until he gets the results of the toxicity test for the Imuran and then he will decide what to do about it. I have felt so crummy for so long now, I can't remember just what all happened when I began taking the Imuran, I would have to go check my diaries. I remember the anxiety and becoming really, really tired and I think that is when the aching all over started but am not sure. What are you problems with the Imuran, if you don't mind my asking that? Keep well, Di
Guest guest
I hope you can find a good NP doc soon! I have never tried Imuran. I am really responsive to the steriods, so far. Depomedrol works best for me 80 mg IM twice a month sometimes more and pred if I am having a really bad flare. Pred makes me yucky sick so I hate to take it. I was on stuff from April to end of October this year my LFT's went down to normal and have stayed and now I am not on anything except diet. My cholesterol is sky high though my liver just doesn't know when to stop making it. I see my hep in a couple of weeks he has some "new" med treatment he wanted to do with me. I hope it gets rid of the exhaustion and itching. Ahh the life of a lab rat! Happy doc hunting! I was diagnosed with celiac disease shortly after the AIH diagnosis and so have really been on the wheat free and gluten free diet for over a year. Now, I would really like to get off or at least drop down on the Mg. of the the steroids and immunesuppresants (imuran). The Dr. has me going up and down on these drugs trying to find what he says will be the right combination to control the AIH. Are you on a low dose of the prednisone and have you ever had to be on the imuran. > >Thanks again for all the information. I am going to try and find a good Naturopathic Dr. Wish me luck! >Happy New Year!! >Shirlee (Wa State) Get reliable dial-up Internet access now with our limited-time introductory offer.
