Hi Rich!

I can feel the swelling on he left side of my brain just like I feel the

swelling on the left side of my chest. Actually I started to feel the

swelling on the left side of my chest years ago.At the beginning I was

scared. I thought I could have cancer or something like that over there .It

was feeling as if I had some lump there. Radiological scans showed nothing

so I just left it as it is.About 3-4 years later I started to feel the

problem on my brain. My left brain feels as if it is swollen and squeezing

my right brain. I heard the possibility of a problem on the lymph system

from you. I was thinking that it was due to an inflammation on the left side

for some reason.Take care..

Nil,

I'm not sure what would be causing the swelling on the left side of

your brain. Of course, one possibility that comes to mind is a brain

tumor. It seems to me that it would be a good idea to have an MRI or

a CT scan run on your brain to check this out. There are various

kinds of brain tumors, some benign and some malignant.

I think that another thing that can cause brain swelling is the

response of the immune system to an infection in the brain, i.e. an

encephalitis. This can increase the pressure in the cerebrospinal

fluid that surrounds the brain, inside the cranium. I don't know

whether an encephalitis can be confined to one side of the brain or

not.

I encountered another PWC on another list who apparently has an

encephalitis, and she had feelings of extremely high pressure in her

head, particularly when she stood up. It apparently affected the

flow of blood in her brainstem to the point that it affected the

control of her heart and lungs. Her systolic blood pressure rose

very high, while her diasolic pressure dropped, and her breathing

became very unusual (apneustic, involving gasping).

I do think it would be wise to get some type of an image of your

brain, if you are able to do so, to check out what is causing this

swelling. As usual, bear in mind that this is not medical advice,

just a layperson's opinion.

Thanks very much Rich for your detailed answer. There was another thing that

I should have mentioned you before. This feeling goes away when I can

meditate deeply. Therefore I am sure that it is not a tumor. This is an

inflammation but I don't know why I feel it on the left side yet. I have

also read various info at web saying that some CFS people have feeling of

swelling on the left side of the brain so I know that I am not the only one.

May be it happens at later stages so that explains why not many mentions

about it. I mentioned about this to you to help you with your research as I

know that you are wholeheartedly working to find the cause of CFS. Take

care..Nil

I havn`t posted for a while, i have had a couple of months of quite

bad depression, and didn`t want to burden anyone else. The problem i

now have is swelling on my calf. I noticed pain in my calf

yesterday, but i`m so use to aches and pains i just ignored it.Later

that evening i noticed it was red and swollen, my ankles were also

swollen, Also there was a lot of little red pin prick marks on my

ankles and lower legs ( i have had this before) it worried me a

little, but i did not want to go to the hospital. I have had

swelling on this leg before, only it was at the front of my calf

before, it looked like a varicose vein. Does anyone have this

problem, or know what could be causing it. I have been diagnosed

with Lupus also. Thanks jackie

Hi a, You made me remember the swelling in my lower leg, too. I had the left TKR first, and it was still swollen when the right one was done, four months later. I think it was a year before they both looked normal again. It just suddenly happened.

Best wishes

Marge

Best of Luck next week I am now 13 weeks post op and still having a lot of swelling in lower leg and foot I get soooo discouraged I want to go back to work

My mom was swollen for a good while after hers was done in 1999. She warned me about that. I have a pair of comfy wide width sneakers I can loosen the laces in. I'll also be able to sit with my feet up even on the computer. I'll be ok. I'm ready.

a, give yourself plenty of time. I really wanted to go back to school at the end of August, but I know that just 4 weeks post op is way too soon to be walking around on campus for classes and such. I'm skipping fall semester and taking time to heal then going back in the spring ready to learn. I know 15 weeks is a good bit of time but if you have a job standing on your feet, it won't be easy if you are still swelling.

a,

Does it help to elevate your leg at all? I had a lot of trouble

with swelling but my physiotherapist used something called a therma

press. She wrapped it around my leg and it applied gentle pressure

and massage. That helped the swelling, as did time.

Hope that you're not having too much pain. Sigrid
