In a week or two I'll make myself go back to the city and get another round of tests. The harbor seals 1,000 feet down the road are almost weaned now, except for one born last week -- far too late to hang out with his or her peers. The first seal of the season was born March 31. The mothers mate as soon as their pups achieve some measure of independence, in about a month. Therefore, this tardy pup's mother may miss her chance to mate this year. Oddly, impregnation takes place three months after mating: the lag allows "nature" to decide whether fishing is good, whether the mother is nice and fat and able to sustain a good pregnancy. The father is long forgotten by the time actual pregnancy starts! The thing that makes me cringe every time I work as a seal docent is that people ask how fast the seal pups gain weight. I answer, truthfully, that while nursing on the incredibly rich seal milk the pups gain one or two pounds a day. People always gasp at this answer. I don't tell them that I, also, gained one or two pounds a day while taking 80 mg of Prednisone, right up to 40 pounds. Sigh. And I still have exactly those 40 pounds. I didn't gain another pound afterward, nor did I lose any. Hey, I'm here, walking and talking and thinking (however dimly) and having a great time. Guest guest
Hey Harper, I know the feeling. I have given mine all to my sisters. It's depressing to look at them. I hope you get to a doctor soon about the foot and keep my fingers crossed in reference to your LFT's. It sounds like you live a great life. Guest guest
No, I just watched his video on OR-Live and Dr. Matta from Santa , CA does an anterior total hip replacement. What is unique about his technique is that it is an anterior, small incision that does not cut any muscle or structural related tissue. Claims are for a faster recovery, ie. quicker weight bearing and basically no dislocation or restriction on bending.MikeW8418@... wrote: It is called resurfacing. Guest guest
We have discussed this method here but it’s been a while. Several message board members have found out that their Dr.s didn’t like the limited vision and/or room to work. I think getting to the cup area would be quite the challenge. For someone with health bones and no special problems, like dysplasia, this method would be a great solution. Coming from a mechanical background I want the surgeon to have all of the room he/she needs and I want them see everything. It’s not like they go in and start cutting stuff just because they can. They only cut what is absolutely needed to get the job done. The size of the scar is WAY down on my list of things to worry about. They have been into my hip twice and he used the same incision site both times so I have overlapping 18 inch scars plus one a little over 18 inches long on my calf from the bone harvest
