That is good news but you are right about the blood work that is important

while on the treatment. You have to keep up on that because that seems to be

where it shows up if you have a problem first. We go to the doctor tomorrow

hoping my husband gets off the combo then but you just never know. Seems

like 18 months would be long enough. You are in our thoughts and prayers

that you find the answer to the problem of the blood work. Hang in there you

will find a way. We just have to stay persistant which is not easy when you

don't feel good anyway. Good luck!!

Connie.....

That's wonderful news about being approved for the combo...I'm so happy

for you.

What about your local or closest county hospital of free clinic? The

CBC/platlette test is pretty inexpensive and they might be willing to do

that much for you. And maybe Commitment to Care can offer some

suggestions for the thyroid and RNA tests since they aren't as frequent.

But I'd certainly be contacting your city/county/state health services

to see about getting your labs.

I doubly agree!

Most people I've talked to on treatment get labs done before treatment, the

first week, the 2nd week and the 4th week then monthly, if everything goes

ok.

Those labs are ESSENTIAL to monitoring your health. Combo is serious stuff.

Thanks for posting this valuable information.

Were you aware LPA is a volunteer organization? From

chapter president, all the way up to the Executive Board,

all positions are filled by persons willing to volunteer

their time and effort for the organization. I realize some

things, like traveling expenses, are compensated for some,

but as far as I know, there is only one paid position in LPA

(I believe database coordinator).

Since you did such a good job on this post, are you willing

to " volunteer " to become the online correspondent for LPA

politics? Will you report on the business of the

organization to keep the membership informed?

Thanks morph.... we need these types of updates more often...

I thought I would elaborate on a few of your 'headlines'.

news

ü Matt Roloff is a possible candidate for President, possibly running

unapposed.

**** Matt is definitly, and aggressivly, running for President 2002-2004.

Matt has been flying around the country meeting with District Directors and

others, seeking input into the 'New Future of LPA' If you have any

constructive input for Matt, regarding LPA... Please email him directly at

mroloff@.... Matt's primary focus during his term will be

fund-raising. Matt is activly seeking 'movers and shakers' to help with

several open positions to manage the 7 new fund-raising tracks. If you are

interested in helping, please let Matt know. ALSO... If anybody else is

interested in running for President (or any other office) I encourage them

to to so.. The health and wellfare of LPA depends on our democratic system.

Simply announce your candidacy/interest to Leroy Bankowski. ****

ü Hagen is stepping down as treasurer

*** has lined up a capable sucessor to run for the 2002-2004 term..

***

ü The most recent issue of the newsletter was mailed out 3 weeks ago.

ü A " walk through " was done at the Salt Lake City conference hotel this

past weekend

*** Yes. I (Matt) stopped in on that walk through last Friday.... I want

to say that the hotel is fantastic! and the planning commitee is very well

organized.. The Hotel lobby is perfect for Lp's sitting all over the place

visiting late into the night. Many big comfy chairs and sofas in front of a

huge lodge style fireplace. Directly connected to the hotel (30yrds from

the lobby) is a mall.. Norstrom, food court etc.. The hotel rooms are very

nice and the conference rooms are centraly located.. If you have ever flown

in/out of SLC you know how easy that airport is to navigate. And the hotel

is just a 8 miles away. This is going to be one killer conference!

Registration packets are still being finalized. ***

ü A mid year execs and BOD meeting is planned end of February in Orlando,

FL, did you know members may attend?

ü New bylaw amendments are due 90 days before the conference

ü Some feel the internet is not used to the advantage of the membership to

communicate the business of the organization, hence the membership is

uninformed.

*** I have received a lot of input on this subject.. Please send

additional Constructive input regarding LPA and it's use of the internet

to mroloff@... ***

ü Some people don't care one way or another

another??

My sister-in-law has reunited with her biological parents also within the

last 5 years and she is now 38 with 2 children of her own. She would tell me

how difficult it was for her adoptive mother to handle things and it was so

painful for her to deal with her adoptive mother through this period of

discovery only because her adoptive mother was soooooooooo against her

spending time with her biological parents (who are divorced).

Please try to follow 's advice, because it is really sound advice based

on the frustration I hear in my sister-in-laws stories of how this situation

works for her. will figure things out in her own time and in her own

way and being the conscientious parent you are, Elaine, you will allow her

this space to explore all her feelings and all things will work out in a

positive way without you being the " bad guy " .

Elaine,

will be on a wild emotional roller coaster ride for the next several

months. Her feelings right now probably can only be described as " weird " . Her

reunion will be very personal, so don't be surprised if she pushes you away

(kids her age do that anyway..but you may feel it stronger). She may not give

you all the details, either. This is very common for all reunited adoptees. I

honestly think if the adoptive parents are strong and supportive during this

process, their relationship with their kids can only become stronger and more

mature.

I had one set of adoptive parents that put together a photo album of the " lost

years " and gave it to the birth parents.

Encourage to take her time for this reunion. I have yet to see a real

life reunion that is like TV. Those TV shows exploit the triad members.

also will have a fantasy mother..one that she has dreamed about.

Reality will set in....I would also encourage to have counseling with

some sessions with her fiance and also with you and . This reunion can be

a good thing....it takes time, understanding, love and support.

If you want my home phone number, let me know. Hang in there--I know this is

not easy for you and .

News

just got off the phone with her birth mother. She has been trying to

find her since her 18th birthday. She has really straightened her life out. I

am having such ambivalent feelings about this. I am happy for and

little sad for me. Just needed to talk to someone.

HI Elaine :)

is a very wise woman, who knows her stuff :) I haven't been through

this but I did have to deal with an ex-hubby who wouldn't co-parent with me

concerning my two older kids and it seemed like I was always the bad guy.

Believe me when I tell you I had to develop a tough skin and quickly :( They

even moved in with him for a couple months and I was devastated (they came

running back lol), parenting at that time was my only job and doing it part

time was tough. You will experience a wide variety of emotions, talk to

someone :) I had my sister here back then and she was the best help and

too :)

Good news, yes... but Stage 1 Grade 1 was described as " minimal " damage,

not " no damage. "

In some ways, it makes it harder to make a decision; since my genotype

is 1A, do I try to put it into remission now or wait until there is more

damage?

I'll be discussing that with the doctor. It certainly does take the

urgency out of treatment- and if I do decide to go for it, and have

serious side effects, it will be easier to stop treatment.

Re: News

WOW that is wonderful news!! You can even forego treatment since you

have no liver damage!
