If you can recall when the propaganda campaign for this started in earnest a year ago, the number cited was actually 46.7 million (often rounded to 47 million), which was obviously intended to show everyone how urgent the need was. However, this maximal figure was arrived at by extrapolating from the last census. It includes people on plans that only cover catastrophic needs. A more recent estimate came from the AMA, who based their number on a nationwide survey of hospitals. That shaved several million off the grand total. However, estimating costs calls for a different " logic. " The CBO used an even lower number to estimate costs, primarily because they eliminated a supposed 12,000,000 undocumented people, who by then were to be excluded. They also counted catastrophic plans differently. If you recall, the CBO originally had an impossibly high estimate of those costs. Then, they were called in for little chat with the President. Immediately after that, using the same input figures, they suddenly came up with a much more manageable cost estimate, a real bargain. Consequently, I am skeptical of all the figures. I'm not optimistic about the coming census, either. Chuck
Guest guest
Chuck, for all the reasons you stated, neither am I. At this point I don't think anyone really knows what is going on, including Congress and the Administration. If they can't even keep dangerous or sick people of of planes, or prevent e coli from getting into the food supply or prevent China from putting lethal ingredients in things from baby formulas to food and toys, then what chance do we all have of anything being done correctly or stated correctly in this country? Guest guest
As for the coming census I recall something about an effort to " homogenize " the data in order to " estimate " the number of uncounted people. If that takes place and the democrats have any input to it I'm afraid the results will be exactly the same as happened when the global warming alarmists " homogenized " the historical temperature and CO2 data over and over or cherry picked until they got exactly the results desired. As for the CBO it's supposed to be an " unbiased " or " non-partisan " source. When it can vastly change the numbers to suit the political wants of the democrats that claim becomes laughable IMHO.
