Guest guest
[sorry for the cross post if you also read the thyroid board] I'm looking for some advise re Thyodine and if there is anyone out there that has Hashimoto's hypothyroidism and has used Thyodine. I've been diagnosed with Hashimoto's since 2006 and have steadily had my thyroid medicine increased. I'm currently on 85mcg of Synthroid and 5mcg of Cytomel. The last time I was at the doctor and he took my laps, my TSH was .045, which according to the .3 - 3.0 is low. I know that when you have Hashimoto's there are some people that believe you should keep your TSH as close to zero as possible. I personally feel like I am one of those people, since I had felt great on the medication above and after those labs. I had no palpitations or any signs of hyperactivity. Anyway, my doctor wanted to try adding Thyodine, hoping that we could get more natural instead of the synthetic and because there is also the various doctors that believe having your TSH that low can cause bone issues. I like my doctor and he believes in treating my symptoms which is why he didn't decrease my meds any after seeing those labs. I added the Thyodine 9 days ago and started by taking one pill per day. This past weekend, my energy levels were non-existent. I slept almost the whole weekend and have just felt exhausted, groggy and dizzy. I know that even the makers of Thyodine state that if you have Hashimoto's, Thyodine can bring back symptoms instead of help, which is what I believe is happening. That being said, the answer seems easy, stop taking the Thyodine as its making me feel bad. Here's the thing, I was previous to taking Thyodine, taking Whole Foods Brand Thyroid Complete Supplement and when I compared ingredients, they are very similar to the Thyodine (I did stop taking the Whole Foods supplement when I started Thyodine as I didn't want to over do any of the supplements.) So where I am now is I've stopped taking the Thyodine as of today. Do I start taking the Whole Foods supplement again? I'm going back to see my doctor on the 23rd and will obviously discuss this with him, but wanted to get some thoughts and maybe be able to bring in some articles in support of keeping your TSH low when you have Hashimoto's or in general not thinking having your TSH that low is a bad thing. He is very open to those types of things, so I don't hesitate at all about showing him other studies. If anyone has any similar experiences or articles I could print and show him, that would be great. Thanks!!
