Evan crawled at about 10 months (I was a little concerned in the back of my mind about his motor development, but everyone had convinced me that it was just because he is so big!) and within a week or two of starting to crawl he started pulling up! He is now cruising along the furniture and I figure he will be walking within a month or so! He just turned one last week, so I don't think he is behind anymore! It's just funny though because my daughter crawled at about 8months and then walked at 13 months...so really they arent that much different! I am getting the biggest kick out of seeing him standing on those chubby little feet!!! He is really into everything now though...our lives (especially my daughters!!) are changing drastically as we are now baby-proofing everything!! I was under the assumption that some kids never crawl and I don't think that your child is behind if still not crawling at 9 mths. Corey also learned a new trick 3 weeks ago about an hour before he received his band - going from a squat straight to standing and for minutes at a time. " Look Ma, no hands! " None of his little buddies are even close to that. I think a lot of infants are delayed these days in crawling (the average used to be 7 months but has recently been changed to 9 months) because they don't sleep on their stomachs and get as much tummy time to develop upper body strength as early. Last week at Corey's first check-up at CT, I turned my head for a minute, to write a big fat check ;-) and he was squatting and halfway up the little slide they have in the office! It was too funny since he doesn't really cruise yet. , how long has been seeing a PT? Corey never saw a therapist but I ran into a very casual acquaintance, who happens to be a physical therapist, a few days after Corey got his band and she was very interested in his case and said she would evaluate him for me. I really thought his tort was resolved from the exercises we did at home but I'm wondering if I should look into this further. He has his one year check-up on the 15th. My Hanna didn't crawl till 11 months, and didn't walk till 15 months. I think she was just content enough to do what she was doing! Not sure if it was due to the helmet or not. He has pulled to stand since 7 months and takes some assisted steps now also. Guest guest Posted January 31, 2007 Report Share Posted January 31, 2007 I'm so glad to hear that other parents of bigger kids also haven't had their kids crawling! Johann is 10 months old and doesn't show any interest in crawling and very little in putting weight on his legs. We've actually started PT because of this and his torticollis, but I can't shake the feeling that's he's really fine and just delayed because he's a bigger boy and content to stay in one place. Who knew having such a happy, contented baby could give me cause to worry! -, Johann's mom Don't be flakey. Get for Mobile and always stay connected to friends.
