Guest guest
This would happen with the very first day. New filter, and even three new pitchers. It happened from day one. I thought hmmm, maybe the filter needed breaking in. So I would wash every thing (except the filter) and refill, for about a week the first time. Then I thought, hmm must be the filter, put a new one in, same thing! Then, I returned the filter/pitcher to exchange, and went through that three times. Still settlement each time. I think it's old brooklyn pipes, had too much garbage in them. Cause the system worked fine for me in Kansas. >From: Sue in NJ <susang3@...> >Date: Tue May 02 07:18:25 CDT 2006 >100-plus >Subject: Brita filters >>I had done brita for a while here in NYC, but when I would go check the >pitcher each time, it had this brown settlement at the bottom....kind of >grossed me out! > >The thing with the Brita filters is that they have to be changed after every >2 months or 40 gallons, whichever comes first. Guest guest
We had that problem off and on--tiny black beads in the bottom of the Brita filter. We then switched to a faucet-mounted Pur (I think) filter and it works great! -Bonnie > > This would happen with the very first day. New filter, and even three new pitchers. It happened from day one. Guest guest
>This would happen with the very first day. New filter, and even three new pitchers. It happened from day one. Sounds like Queens has really crudy water! > I thought hmmm, maybe the filter needed breaking in. Just a 15 minute soak before using it the first time. >Still settlement each time. I think it's old brooklyn pipes, had too much garbage in them. And Mayor Bloomberg, and all the mayors before him, say NYC water is perfectly fine for drinking straight from the tap. Ha! I'd like to see them do that without it being just a photo-op after a crisis, like a major water main break. Sue in NJ
Guest guest
> We had that problem off and on--tiny black beads in the bottom of the > Brita filter. That's just leakage of the tiny charcoal filter. Perfectly harmless, and even useful if you eat a lot of gasssy foods, as charcoal is a natural odor absorber. >We then switched to a faucet-mounted Pur (I think) > filter and it works great! We used to use faucet-mounted ones exclusively until we moved into this apartment. The sink is a cheapo aluminum and the faucet itself bends forward with the filter screwed on, and the weight of it pulls it off the sink, just rendering the putty useless. So now we just have the screw-on aerator with the tiny screen filter on the spout and use the Brita to filter the water. Sue in NJ
Guest guest
Exactly about the Mayor. It was also supposedly so safe to walk around Manhattan at ground zero only days after 9/11. Even though you could still see the dust and asbestos floating around. My husband works for NYC transit as a electrical helper and I told him not to take his mask off. He still had lung problems for about 2 years! after that! >From: Sue in NJ <susang3@...> >Date: Tue May 02 08:35:59 CDT 2006 >100-plus >Subject: Re: Brita filters >>This would happen with the very first day. Guest guest
Hi Bee, I read that you recommend a Brita filter instead of reverse osmosis with concentrace. Did I understand it right? I just don't feel assured that the Btita filter will take away all the harmful stuff found in our tap waters. Are you sure this is the best option? Is there one filter from Brita that you recommend or will any do? Thanks Bee kelly
