Guest guest
There is a website: http://www.the-sage.com/cgi-bin/rlink.cgi?/rcp21.rcp that helps you formulate your own lotions. By calculating the percentages of water, glycerine, etc., you can probably come close to duplicating the lotion you liked. It gives you the percentages that you could/should use of each ingredient. Play around with it and you might make a lotion you really like. > I got this lotion for Christmas and would love it if someone had > instructions on how to make it. The ingredients call for water, > coconut oil, glycerine, emulsifying wax, stearic acid, citric acid, > germeben II, essential oils, fragrance, and food coloring. Has anyone > have a recipe with these ingredients? I love the smell and it is soo > creamy. I would like to make some for my family. Guest guest
Hello , Not an expert, but people do like my lotions. I always associate a cream or body butter with beeswax and a light thin lotion with e.wax (emulsifying wax). If you follow Tina's formula on the MMS http://www.thesage.com website you cannot go wrong actually. I add about 1 - 3% Cornstarch to my lotions to take care of the greasiness. HTH Smilies Louise bODY LOTION Hello everyone. I have been working really hard on a body lotion. When I first make it, I'm really happy with it except it's a bit greasy for some people. After a few days though, it gets really thick (too thick) and I'm not sure how to fix this. Should I add more water or less beeswax or ????? Also, I'm wondering what to add to take away the greasiness. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, S
Guest guest
I'm no expert, but many times you can decrease your Ewax to a minimum of 3% (especially if it's Polowax Brand) and decrease your Stearic Acid. Stearic is the main thickener, but ewax can thicken a bit also. Also as for greasiness, some oils have a greasier feel than other light oils. I would have to see your recipe in order to truly determine the cause. There are additives out there, some of which are chemicals that we are trying to avoid when making our own lotion from scratch. I've also heard adding about a tablespoon of cornstarch per pound of lotion helps the feel, but I personally haven't tried it. Good Luck, Lou > Hello everyone. Guest guest
Hi ; I would add more water for a thinner lotion. Also my preference is natrasorb to cut out the greasyness in my creams and lotions. But if you don't have any natrasorb you can use cormstarch. Guest guest
Hello Louise. Thanks for the info. Do you mean Tina's Lanolin Butter? Or is there another one? do you mean using emulsifying wax nf or another one? I used carnuba before and I think it smells awful. Thanks in advance.I actually used cornstarch on a body butter today and it seemed to work. bODY LOTION > > > > > > >
Guest guest
IPM or Natrasorb will take care of the greasiness. bODY LOTION > Hello everyone. I have been working really hard on a body lotion. Guest guest
Hi , you may want to try using some different oils and butters...Try some lighter, faster absorbing oils, such as grapeseed, fractionated coconut oil. Try using mango butter instead of shea butter. I find the mango not as " greasy " And like others have said, cutting down on the steric acid would help too. HTH. Leanna in Alberta. Guest guest
, with the two links below, you can formulate almost any lotion your heart desires! Tina's guidelines are fantastic! I made a " butter " once and swore never never again! It was made with Beeswax and I could not even scrape it off the pot or get it off my hands. I was beside myself! With the guidelines Tina gives you end up with a rich milk which later turns into a wonderful lotion that just disappears into your skin, leaving no greasiness. The Excel chart takes some time to do but so worth it! I never work with any kind of was any more. I make all my lotions Tina' way. Guest guest
thanks so much for the links louise. I haven't put them to use yet but I will. I have been using sodium borate for my emulsifier but it seems from all the advice I've been given, that maybe I should try the emulsifying wax nf and see if that works better for me. Thanks for your help. Sutherland Re: bODY LOTION > > > Hello Louise. Thanks for the info. Do you mean Tina's Lanolin Butter? > > > >
Guest guest
Bee, These are the ingredients of a body lotion that they sell at tropical traditions.com. I was thinking about trying it out in the future, but I am not sure if grapefruit seed extract would be good to rub our skin. Ingredients: purified water, organic virgin coconut oil, plant based emulsifying wax, palm stearic, grapefruit seed extract, organic beeswax, organic virgin palm oil, and organic essential oils of rosewood, lavender, ylang ylang, roman chamomile, geranium and rose. kelly
