I know that some people on here have been doing the ab boot camp, and I just gave it a try after my cardio today. But I can't seem to grasp how to do the ones geared for the sides, obliques, any tips? It just seems really awkward.

Yeah, it is awkward at first, but I think the trick is to remember that these aren't very large motions. Don't allow yourself to lower your shoulders completely, and think (really!) about contracting the abs. Its like forming a c-shape with the trunk of your body from hips to chest. It doesn't take a huge range of motion, just effort. There are other more extensive exercises for obliques that may make you think you're working harder, but be careful you're not using your hip flexor muscles and momentum to swing you up.

Another word of caution: don't use extra weight (like a weight plate) unless you want to add size...and for most women I know, that's NOT what they want.

Otherwise, you could ask a trainer to help you by watching and helping you correct form. Its hard to do that on email! Good luck.

Yes, adding lemon to water is okay. If you use the juice, just make sure it is real lemon juice.

I don't know the nutritional info on Crystal Light, but my understanding is that it doesn't have any nutritional value, just adds taste. If that is the case, you just count it as water.

I haven't tried the Ab Bootcamp. I think you are referring to side crunches, which are very awkward. Just keep on until you feel more comfortable with them. I do an ab routine by published in a 1996 issue of Muscle Media 2000.

Thanks a lot. Have you been doing the boot camp? Seeing results? I want

my lower abs to be more defined that would be nice.

Impatience - its the number one on the list of the " Ten Biggest

Mistakes " list at: http://www.geocities.com/jgrrl2/mistakes.html

Its that immediate gratification thing - but like you said there are

subtle changes already happening. Give it the full 12 weeks then make

any changes you think you overlooked. It didnt take you nine weeks to

get fat why do you think it would take any less to lose it? Read over

the section at Hussmans great website about 'How you really do change

from the inside out' at: http://www.hussman.org/fitness/#inside

Using flax or any EFA is like vitamins - you dont see immediate

results - its over months usually.

And yes they say when fat 'shifts' or becomes softer, its changing

and on the move! Hopefully gone for good eh? ;-)

Hi!

Joni is right about being patient...big changes in your body happen

from the inside out.

It does sound like you're making great strength gains, which mean

you've definitely gained muscle. It may just be that your body takes

a bit of time to get the fat off, or you may need to double check

your diet. Why not post a day's meals for us to critique?

Abs usually start peeking through around 15-18% bodyfat or so. For

some, it's higher than that, for others, much lower. I know that I

first started to see ab definition at about 22-23%, which is crazy

high. You will, though, start to see definition from the top down, so

what you're seeing in the mirror may very well be the beginnings of a

six-pack :)

Fat definitely shifts around and comes closer to the skin when your

body's getting ready to shed it. It gets all globby-like and very

jiggly. Keep drinking your water and you'll see it starting to

dissipate.

As for the popcorn, I'd stay away from microwave popcorn and popcorn

in general. Microwave popcorn is processed and even though it's low

fat, it still has a lot of oils and additives in it. Air-popped

popcorn is better, but *technically* not authorized.

Hope this helps!

Maggie

Bee or others,

1) I've never been out of the country before, nor on an airplane. How can I

travel with my supplements? Travel case? Will I be able to pack Coconut oil?

2) Could a die-off symptom be an urge to have a cigarettte?

3) I've been on the diet for 18 days now and my skin has improved greatly. I

have no infected hairs on my face, neck. I thought things would get worse

because of die-off symptoms?

4) I bought an organic mustard that contains: Organic apple cider vinegar,

organic mustard seed, and sea salt. Is this okay to use?

+++Hi Jeff. The best way to protect your supplements, coconut oil, etc. is to

wrap each item individually in aluminum foil and packed in a suitcase with your

" checked in " luggage (not carried on board with you), which helps protect them

from the scanners. I wrap bottles of CO and CLO individually in plastic bags

first, just in case they break.

+++It is very possible.

+++That's great! But healing does have its ups and downs, so it isn't a steady

uphill climb towards health, where you feel better and better every day.

+++Sounds okay to me.

The best, Bee
