This might be a silly question, but does anyone know what happens if

the DOC Band gets completely wet?

The reason I ask this is that Riley is starting swimming lessons this

month and the instructor is concerned with the simulation of falling

into the pool. At the end of the eight week course the babies go

into the water with their clothes on to make sure they still apply

their " survival " techniques should they ever fall in on their own.

I am not going to put her in with the band. She was just concerned

that it would add a lot of weight to her head. I think it would

float, given the materials, I just want to make sure.

Sue:

We were told to keep the DOC band dry. I would not put it completely under

water. I think the original instruction sheet says this but you should

probably call your CT office to make sure.

Sue:

The chlorine will likely cause irritation to her skin from getting into the liner. Make sure her hair is washed really well (and dry, of course), before putting her band back on.

Have fun with the swimming lessons!

I cant imagine- given the materials that it is made out of it wouldnt float- but I am not sure CT could probably tell you in a heart beat what would happen.

We never went in the pool with the helmet but it will float its

lined with polystirine.

Ours stunk so bad at the end I washed it in the bath every nite

and it never fell apart. At that point we were nealy finished with

treatment and my daughter smelt like I hadent bathed her in weeks. We

live in south FL and it was summer and she was swetting alot.

The band costs $3500 so you have to risk that versus your child doing

a exsperiment.

I think this has been covered by a couple of other people, but the

answer is: The DOC Band should never go in the pool or get wet.

Water will stay trapped in the liner (even thought it feels dry) and

can " eek " out and cause skin problems for the infant. It isn't the

band we have to worry about, but rather the infant's skin.

Now that it is getting to be swimming pool weather (in certain parts

of the country) let me also remind everyone to wash the chlorine from

the infant's hair and fully dry the hair before putting the DOC Band

back on. Chlorine sealed against the skin can very easily cause skin

irritations.

Hey all,

Please let me straighten something out: I have no intention of

putting her band in the water. Her swim instructor was just

wondering if it floated! She's taking Infant Swimming Research

instruction and each child is taught one on one. Her instructor had

never come across a child with a band before and wants to learn so

she can make Riley's lessons work for her. Can never be too careful.

Thank you all for your input. I had never even considered that I had

to wash the chlorine off her head before putting the band back on so

good tip.
