Myoplex Deluxe, not regular Myoplex...more calories, more protein, and they

are useful calories plus the benefits of the extra supplements they put it in

which at this late in the night after internship and classes has lost my mind

for the moment.

Only difference is that a serving of Phosphagen has more creatine than

Betagen (3 grams more) and that most essentially Betagen has the delivery

system (sugar) and other essential nutrients like Potassium, Calcium, Taurine

and L-Glutamine. If you want to do the Phosphagen TAKE IT WITH A NON-CITRUS

JUICE like Grape juice...and not Orange Juice.

What is HGH (this hormone growth) cant remember the other word. What is

it used for and is it good to take? Is it in pill or powder form? I have

read a little about it but now much. Sharon

Human Growth Hormone. it's supposed to stimulate an anabolic state. I'd not waste your money. Six meals a day, lots of water and rest, intense workouts and vitamins and EFA's should do you fine with possibly the addition of BetaGen.

Just my opinion. Kit :=)

EAS recommends, or recommended last I heard from them, that adro be used over the age of 45 to supplement hormone levels.

I wouldnt waste your money on it, your testosterone level while

not as great as an 18 old but will do you quite fine till you are 70.

the small kick in testosterone you will get from it is not significant

enough to make much difference. you generally have to take way

above the recomended dose for any significant effect.

adverse effects on kidneys and prostate can then result. aromatisation

is apparently also quite high and can lead to the appearance

of female characteristics. not a good look.

tut tut tut.

if you want to supplement hormone levels go see a doctor

who will test you to determine your current levels and may prescribe

steroidal hormones. I would be surprised if you can find an honest

doctor who will do that without a very good reason at age 46.

the only reason the FDA has not banned prohormones is

that they cant be shown to increase muscle mass.

5HTP should be 100mg - 300mg per day. I've not had a problem with

headaches. I take 5HTP about 45 minutes before bed with my other

nighttime vitamins (B6, Niacin, Magnesium). For full insomnia

effectiveness, 5HTP needs a carbohydrate transport, though. " The

sedative effects of 5-HTP can be enhanced by taking it near bedtime

with a carbohydrate source such as fruit or fruit juice. "

No connection with 5HTP, at least in my post. I ignored Licorice and

Omega 3 capsules since I didn't have direct knowledge.

In the meantime, I looked up licorice in the Encyclopedia of Natural

Health as well as LR4YT. I can't find any specific references in LR;

ENH has several references, all based on the ailment you are

attempting to treat. Quoting from ENH below:

" In addition to being used to treat a variety of female disorders, it

was used primarily as an expectorant and antitussive in respiratory

tract infections and asthma. Its other traditional uses include

treating peptic ulcers, malaria, abdominal pain, insomnia and

infections. Many of these have been substantiated by modern research.

Licorice is particularly useful in treating PMS, ... " {Hmmm. Now you

have my attention.}

" For PMS, start taking licorice on day 14 of the cycle and continue

until menstruation. Here are dosage recommendations for various forms

of licorice, to be taken 3 times per day:

* Powdered root or as tea: 1 - 2 g

* Fluid extract (1:1): 4ml (1 tsp)

* Solid (dry powdered) extract (4:1): 250 - 500 mg

More interesting reading...

DGL and ulcers: in acute cases 2 to 4 380 mg tablets between or 20

minutes before meals. For mild or chronic cases, 1 to 2 tablets 20

minutes before meals. After meals, poor results. In order to be

effective in healing peptic ulcers, the DGL must mix with saliva; DGL

in capsule form has not been shown to be effective.

I love this book.

And more on 5HTP:

5HTP can be used to promote " early satiety " and weight loss. 50 - 100

mg 20 minutes before meals for the first 2 weeks; then double the

dosage if weight loss is less than 1 pound per week. +300mg are

associated with nausea, but this symptom disappears after 6 weeks.

I used to take 5g of glutamine and 500mg of vitamin C post workout for

immune function and muscle recovery. Worked dandy. I used to catch

colds really easily when I was training hard. I started the C and

glutamine routine and went two years without a sniffle.

Great job on your first four weeks!!! What are your stats at this point? Just

curious since it sounds like your really working the program.

I take the Betagen. I love it. I have really gotten the muscle that I am

looking for, of course I do work hard in my workouts too. Some of my muscle may

be hiding under the BF...especally on my legs and butt, but I do feel it under

there.

I do not take the creatine, mostly because I love the orange flavor of the

Betagen, and I like that the betagen has a few other things wrapped up in it.

I know in past posts I have stated that you do not need supplements to do BFL,

and I still hold true to that. I do feel that if you get significant amounts of

water, and get the correct amount of protein for your body type you can get just

as good results. I unfortunately struggle with that myself, and slack in that

category...so, I do take the Betagen. Which I guess helps. I really don't even

know. I have been taking it for so long, and pretty much when I starting doing

weights so I have nothing to compare it to. Although I know swears by the

creatine. She has some pretty impressive pictures on her blog to prove it has

its benefits. But again you dedicate 100% to the diet, and a betagen/creatine

user and 100% dieter will probably be next to impossible to pinpoint.

But, this is all my option...so I'll shut up now

I'm craving and he makes it happen over the weekend!) Anyway, I will

let you all know my results tomorrow.

Back to the real purpose of my email, these first four weeks, my

supplements have been:

Upon rising:

Vitamin C

Immediately after workout:

3 CLA capsules

Vitamin C

One hour after workout:

myoplex shake w/ banana and 1 tbsp flax oil

multi vitamin

primrose oil (which I'm almost out of and may discontinue using)

My afternoon snack is a myoplex carb sense RTD.

Starting next week, I'm thinking of starting the betagen and I've

been reading alot about carnitine.

What are your thoughts/experiences about adding those? Too much,

unnecessary, great combo? Are there better recommendations?

Thanks!! D'

L-Carnitine can help your body release fat for energy during cardio,

but only if your carbs are low, like 75g/day or less. If you're

getting more than 75g a day like most Body-for-lifers, L-Carnitine

would be a waste of money.

, thanks for the info. I will let you know my stats tomorrow

after I get it all tested. We have a medical office at my work so I

am using their Tanita scales which I know aren't the best but I'm

hoping since I used them first time that I will at least see a

decrease in BF. I am ordering the calipers for my accurate

readings. Anyway, until tomorrow . . . .

Remember that nutrition is 80% of your results, workouts maybe 15-18%

and supplements about 2%. Get the nutrition right and you'll have a

stunning transformation. If the rest of your plan is on target then

supplements can give you a little bit of an edge, but if your eating

is hit or miss, no supplement can pick up the slack.

Since nutrition is so critical, meal replacements like Myoplex can be

helpful. I don't know anybody who actually uses them three times a

day. Real food is better if you have time, but a shake or a bar can

definitely keep you on track when you're busy. You can also buy a tub

of whey protein to use in recipes or to use as the protein portion of

any meal (protein shake and fruit, protein shake and oatmeal).

Lots of people also use a tablespoon of flax oil a day or a couple

tablespoons of ground flax seeds to help with fat loss and cut

cravings. Check out the flax oil document in the club Files section

for more info on that, or check out some of the informational

literature at Barlean's: http://barleans.com/literature/index.html

Whey protein is just food, like chicken or cottage cheese. You have it

when you're hungry. :-) It can be the protein portion of any of your

six meals. It can be used in recipes for desserts or bars, or you can

follow the directions on the package and make a shake using milk or

water. Here are some more elaborate shake recipes:

I use it to boost my protein count. I need to get at least 130 grams of protein

a day. I add 1 scoop to my oatmeal in the morning, and after my weight-lifting

workout I drink a whey protein shake made out of 4oz skim milk and 4 oz water,

and I usually add some frozen fruit to it also. I don't drink many shakes, and

I don't eat store bought bars much any more. I now am on this kick where I am

making my bars, they stick with me longer than the store bought ones.

Pam,

After your workout and the protein shake do you then have a meal in addition to

the shake or does that count as one meal?

I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed

I have my shake which can be 200-300 calories so that is my after workout meal.

I then wait 2-3 hours and have another meal with a protein/carb and vegetable.
