Guest guest
My copy of the manual (downloaded, so don't know that the page number will correlate) has a " Recommended One Year Follow Up Blood Tests " paragraph on page 85. I gave this to my pcp and these tests done pre-op so that I could compare apples to apples down the road. :-) Kathy in VA 7/6/06 297/192 -------------- Original message -------------- From: " Sally Hardman " <hardman3@...> I need help with 2 questions: 1) How many grams of protein do we need per day following surgery? 2) What kind of blood work do I need to have done post op? I have looked in the manual, but most of the information leads up to the surgery and immediately post op. The answers may be in the manual, but I can't find them. All I can see is that we need more protein, and we need to have our doctor do blood work to monitor our progress. They are asking me what kind of blood work, and I have no clue! Help! Guest guest
This is my OPINION about protein. It does, however, have SOME basis. Protein levels drop slowly over time. I got dangerously sick this summer after PS because the healing exhausted all my protein stores and practically everything else. I was lucky enough that my PS had done a lot of work in Nutrition, oddly enough, so he figured out what he THOUGHT the problem was very quickly. I was also lucky enough that one of the nutritionists on staff at the hospital had a lot of experience with gastric bypass patients. I don't think she was a fan of the MGB but she was nice about it. All that said, to say, she told me to eat 80-90 grams of protein a day, keeping in mind that your body can probably only absorb 20 -25 at a time. So, the best way, nearly the ONLY way, to get that all in is with protein shakes. I consider them my insurance. I also eat cheese, lot of it, eggs, all kinds of meats and nuts...anything with protein. I eat it religiously. Secondly, I have a friend who is having significant problems 7 years post op with Vitamin B12 issues. Her levels were low normal, around the 300 range, but at a minimum her doctor thinks she needs to be at 500. She has neurological and memory problems as a result of the deficiency. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take your vitamin issues seriously. It is critically important to our health. It is very hard to build back. Don't accept low normals...look for being in the mid range. We have to manage this the rest of our lives. That's what we signed up for...remember when you said you would DO ANYTHING if only you could be thin? Well THIS is the ANYTHING...skinny without health, ain't crap! I don't know where it is in the manual, but the annual lab list IS in the manual. Keep reading! Guest guest
Good advice, . Thanks for the sharing. I know you've mentioned this before, but I'm drawing a blank. Would you mind telling who your wonderful PS doc was and where he is located. Thanks for the reminder about how the protein failed you post PS. I'm planning on having at least four PS, and I've been terrible about getting in all the required protein. I am good about taking my vitamins though. Just recently I added string cheese and nuts in an effort to get more protein. I was also drinking Special K Protein Water, then I checked the label a little more closely after I gave a bottle to my diabetic husband and it caused his blood suger levels to jump 20 points. It has 8 grams of sugar and only 5 grams of protein, plus I had the horrible realization after looking at the grocery receipt, that it was over $6 for only four bottles! I'm giving up the Special K Protein Water habit for sure! I wish I could find a protein powder that I could stand to make drinks out of! in NC May 2, 2006 305/208/130-150ish high/now/goal Queen <valmaboyz@...> wrote: This is my OPINION about protein. Guest guest
Have you tried unjury protein powder? It's a bariatric protein powder. They have sample packs you can purchase. (beats committing to a huge jar) I like the unflavored. I mix mine with milk (lactose free) activia yogurt and frozen fruit usually strawberries. One scoop of unjury is 20 grams of easily assimulated whey protein. Guest guest
Hi, I have few questions and I would glad if somebody can help me with this. 1) I am burping a lot these days, especially when having/ just after food and again when my stomach is empty ( 3-4 hrs after food). Is this a common candida symptom? Why does it happen? Any suggestions for improving the condition? 2) How to measure the candida level in the body? Are there any reliable tests out there or is it just purely driven by symptoms? 3)Is Centrum multi vitamins good as a supplement? Thanks in advance Gowtham

I don't know about burping - sorry / I guess it has to do with digestion which is a candida issue..? I think the only way to measure candida is by doing the questionaire in Bee's site from time to time and see how much you progress. Multivitamins are not ok. Bee says that they cannot have the right balance of what you need. You only have to get what Bee suggests, nothing more nothing less. you can find here a handy supplements chart http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/supp7.php Marisa
