She eats nothing but things like grapes, carrots and yogurt. I don't know why she's not starving. Diane (, 3, pauci)
Guest guest
Hi , I have noticed a big increase in appetite at 3 months also. I am now 6 months post op and I think I sometimes eat like I never had the surgery! I don't eat like I did before surgery but sometimes and I should really say most times I eat like normal people do. I mean I can have a whole sandwich or hamburger, most fries and a salad with no problem. Or a good amount of steak, veggies, potato, salad. Even a cookie after that! I feel tremendous guilt with it too. I don't know if I am eating to much. I just got off of a 5 week plateau. I lost 4lbs this week. I have started going to the gym a month ago. I thought working out would help control my appetite but to tell you the truth my appetite has increased more! I would like others to respond to the appetite subject to see the amount others are eating! B In a message dated 3/23/2003 8:38:53 PM Eastern Standard Time, mlweddle1@... writes: > > Hi everybody. Guest guest
hi ~ I am having the same problem with increased appetite, and have been very concerned as well. I know some days I don't eat enough, but I then get overly hungry at times and have trouble eating slowly enough and am so afraid i'm stretching my stomach. I'm 4 1/2 months out and this is very scary for me as well. I too am of'course eating alot less than before surgery, but i'm trying hard to stay on track and keep changing my eating habits. I just wanted you to know your not alone, and I hope someone can shed some light on this for us. Heidi 11/06/02 266/
Guest guest
To all those who have an increased appetite: In my experience, this resulted from too much carbohydrate in my diet. Because the really sweet food is allowed, I got to thinking I could abuse it. I noticed that when I ate high sugar or high flour foods, my appetite spiked. To control this, increase protein and decrease carb. Works for me. F. Potter Re: appetite hi ~ I am having the same problem with increased appetite, and have been very concerned as well. Guest guest
- I am 4 months post op. My appetite has increased from the first couple of months, but not much. I may be hungry for much, but can eat very little most times. I find that if the food is soft and easily digested, I can eat quite a bit more than, say a sandwich or meats. I actually am hoping that this changes and that I can eat a sandwich, etc. eventually. The weight is dropping very quickly and I sometimes worry that I will not be able to stop it. I am down 60 pounds and, of course, would like to lose more. Just need to slow it down now. Hopefully, things will only keep improving! Guest guest
Thanks for everybody's replies. I can't believe the difference over the past week. Alisha Ackerman won't believe it either, because she has eaten with me on more than one occassion and saw how little I ate. I just hope I don't stretch my stomach and overdo it. Guest guest
I think the main reason I read these emails is to see how people have the same concerns as I do. I feel like I am not alone. I was recently amazed at the woman who wrote about her appetite. Her appetite increased just like mine!!! At the same time post-op! It wasn't till I was half way through the email when I realized I was the one that wrote it!! LOL!! I just thought I had to share this with everyone! Guest guest
Well, Heidi and , I am back!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet you two don't even know that you have a friend in common. Me!!!!!! Funny huh? Didn't I tell you both that your appetite would return with a vengeance around 3 months? Don't worry! I totally freaked out about it. I was convinced that I would stretch my stomach. I talked with and about it when they attended our support group meeting in the fall. They explained that on some days when I had larger or more frequent bowel movements, I could probably eat more. The following days, I could probably eat less. They were so right! It is okay that you are eating more than you were in the beginning, just make sure that you are eating the right things!!!!!!! Eat nutritious foods and keep the carbs to a minimum. They will spike your blood sugar and when you crash, you will be hungry for more carbs. I bet if you measure what you are eating in one sitting, it is probably no more than a cup of food. Remember what you ate before surgery? Relax. I bet that scale will really start moving now! You have to throw some logs on the fire to get it to burn. Fondly, Alisha (235/132)
Guest guest
I'm concerned about this because it's really hard for me to get all the food I need. My appetite has been lowered for many years now since I was a teenager and i'm 24 right now. Maybe it's because I'm so tired. But has anyone else had a bad appetite? I basically have to force this food down. Honestly, I don't really like it compared to what I use to eat which was carbs, sugar, pastas, and all the bad stuff. But if I continue to eat the right foods and get a lot more good fats than I ever have, will my appetite get better so I'll wanna eat more nutritious food? I don't like not feeling hungry and thirsty like I used to. It's like my body isn't really alive.
Guest guest
Hi , You sound like me. I have very little appetite and it doesn't help that I used to be a vegetarian and really liked those foods. Meat and eggs have never appealed to me, so I know how you are struggling. It's hard to eat sometimes, but I try to make the things that are my favourites (on Bee's list, of course). What I have been doing is to just keep eating as much as I can tolerate, knowing that the food is like medicine and will help me to get better .. and it has. I do feel a lot better and notice that my appetite has improved. I try not to eat too much at dinnertime, focusing on eating more during the day. I find if I eat a lot at dinner (around 6pm) I don't sleep well and wake up not feeling hungry until around 11 or noon, which sets me up for eating a late dinner again the next day. That might be something you can try. Stress can also decrease your appetite. In the past, a liquid diet has helped me get through the stress and decreased appetite. Hang in there! > > I'm concerned about this because it's really hard for me to get all the food I need. My appetite has been lowered for many years now since I was a teenager and i'm 24 right now. You can be assured that when your body changes over from running on carbs/sugars to running on " good " fats your tastes will change so you'll tend to crave foods that are good for you, rather than carbs. I recommend you do the 9-Day Program at this time, which will help you get past this difficult period of time: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/dig6.php The best to you, Bee
Guest guest
Bee, Thanks for the reply. What is the goal of the nine day program if you don't mind me asking? Do you recommend that so that maybe I can get myself dug outta this hole and get some energy going or? Also, what is pureeing foods and how do you do it? > > > > I'm concerned about this because it's really hard for me to get all the food I need. The goal of the 9-Day Program is stated in the title of the article, which is to help alleviate severe die-off symptoms and/or to help digestion. I suggested it for you to get help you get through the die-off symptoms you are finding difficult to handle. Pureed foods are finely ground up foods, which is done with a food processor or blender. It is so much easier on your body if you consume liquid or finely ground foods. Bee
Guest guest
Hi Kristi, I think it is more head hunger and being bored. Sometimes you get a feeling, and it is hard to describe, but not real hunger. Don't get into the habit of grazing (constantly eating). Head hunger is a BIG game that we all have had to learn to deal with. Chew some gum, do something. If you feel the need for something to eat make it healthy. Find a place on line to keep track of the number of calories that you are eating once you start eating regular food too. Sounds like you are doing good and I am thrilled that this was a great experience for you. Take care, Suzann In a message dated 04/01/09 14:26:50 Pacific Daylight Time, birtlover@... writes: Hi allI had my sleeve surgery on the 27th of March and I have already lost 12 lbs. It was such a good experience all the way around. I would do it again tomorrow. The Hospital and Dr.s and Staff were all amazing! Until she got there and met everyone and saw the place and people, and figured out it was not some black market butcher shop.Anyone considering this please go ahead. Now On to my question? I feel like I have a little bit of an appetite. Is this normal? I am dealing with the head games of eating just because it tastes good or I am bored, or happy, or sad etc......I am trying to really figure out if I am hungry or not. Guest guest
Hey guys, I was sleeved 2-24-09 and I was starving that first month and when I was able to have mushy stuff I didn't eat 3x a day because i would've been miserable. So i've been eating about every 2 hrs, even now that I'm on " real " food! I feel better and we can't eat very much anyhow so I don't worry about calories I just have something. Of course make healthy choices and you'll be good. I've lost 27lbs so far. Jen > > Kristi, > I got my sleeve on Mar. 23 and came home on the 27th. YOu must have been one of the group of several I saw sitting in a row as I went on one of my walks around the halls. (I got a band 3 years ago and only have 20 more pounds to lose so I was not an " obvious " Aceves patient. > > I seem to feel some hunger too and when I consider that we are supposed to take in 600-800 calories a day and if I have only had 3 clear protein beverages at 115 calories each then I DO need to eat. It is not hunger like the pre-sleeve days but after a full day of teaching algebra it does not surprise me that I need two more shakes before bedtime (although there has to be nap (recliner) after the first one because I soooooooooooooooo tired after a day of school). I think this weekend I will look up web site, daily plate (?) to help track my caloric intake. Today I know I forgot to drink enough water so I am trying to catch up a bit this evening and hope I still get enough sleep later (sure am grateful for indoor plumbing !!) It is good that you know about head hunger but check your intake too. You not only have to function you have to heal and that needs the 600-800 calories. > > gloria >
