Guest guest
Cherie, I am assuming that the letter with the rider is because the plagio is considered a pre-existing condition and MANY insurance policies will exclude treatment for pre-existing conditions indefinately or for a pre-defined period of time (ie 6 months or more). It sounds like this is what BCBS is doing and unfortunately this is a common practice. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi! We have experienced this. They may be looking at this from the stand point of preexisiting condition. We tried to switch insurance companies and we were told they would never cover anything of Hunter's plagiocephaly or tort., even after a year or so. We asked would they cover this after the first year and they said NO. Good Luck! Thanks, Amy Hunter's mother
Guest guest
Marci, I could understand them denying him coverage for his skull or the plagio and torticollis only. But the are saying the that will not cover him for anything at all. They referred me to the Oklahoma high risk pool for him. I don't even know what that is. Do you? Guest guest
Cherie, Sorry, I cut myself off, I have terrible trouble with my laptop! What I was saying is that the high risk pool is for people who would otherwise have trouble getting insurance through a regular insurance company. Are they just referring you for your son's insurance coverage? The best example I can give is with auto insurance. If a person were to have several accidents or moving violations there insurance co might cancel them. It would be almost impossible for that person to get insurance with the mainstream companies, but since we are required to have insurance the high risk pool was created to meet that need. Usually (but not always) the premiums and deductibles are higher and the coverage is not always as comprehensive. I think it is unusual that they would non-cover a baby. Has he had other medical problems? I hate to hear that you are having trouble with this. I work for a third party administrator of health and life insurance policies so I have access to quite a bit of information on the subject. If I can help you in any way please let me know. Guest guest
Cherie: I would challenge this...we recently changed insurance companies and have no exceptions as long as there was no break in insurance (when switching from one company to another). I was extremely worried about this as we have four kids (two were preemies) and I am looking at reconstructive abdominal surgery in the next year. We switched from Medical Mutual of Ohio to Anthem BC/BS and there was no problem. Marci made a good suggestion about who to contact. I am not sure how they can do this.
