Guest guest
I want to know because my friend's father started a vegan diet a few months ago. He also does not eat any oils or fats. He started the this diet to cure his diabetes, it was in a book. He has lost a lot of weight and his blood sugar has greatly improved so, of course, he thinks this diet is the best thing for him. But he also said he has lost muscle strength. Of course, I know this is very unhealthy and have tried to talk to him about it but he is extremely stubborn and thinks I'm crazy for thinking that some fats are beneficial for you. I searched on the internet to find out what happens to your body if you don't eat fat but, of course, found nothing. I want to know so I can tell my friend and maybe she can help him. Is this diet going to kill him? What exactly would happen if you don't eat any fat or oil? Becki

Of course if anyone changes their diet so they are eating healthier foods instead of processed or adulterated foods, even if it is a vegan diet, their health will improve, but not for long. Vegan diets do not provide vital nutrients required for human health, so eventually his health will deteriorate a great deal. Every single function of the body requires " good " fats in order for a person to be healthy. Also for all cell membranes to be healthy they need to be constructed out of 50% saturated fat (lung cells require 100%). If a person eats absolutely no fat their bodies will still produce the cholesterol it needs, but eventually they will get liver and gall bladder problems since the liver makes bile (for digestion) out of good fats, and good fats are required for liver health. They will also experience digestive problems since a high-carb/vegan diet is high in fiber which is very damaging to the digestive system - see these articles: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/menu3_2_2.php Good fats also help the body pull nutrients out of foods and they satiate the appetite, slow digestion so nutrients can be assimilated, and they strengthen the bowels, etc. Also protein from animal sources are the only way to get " true " B12 - see this article: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/foods33.php Also carbohydrates can be very damaging to the body without enough protein and good fats - see Scientific Proff Carbohydrates Cause Disease: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/foods12.php Your friend's father needs to learn about " good " fats and the dangers of a vegan diet - refer him to these articles: -Myths & Truths About Vegetarianism: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/foods34.php -The Oiling of America: http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/oiling.html -The Importance of Saturated Fats for Biological Function: http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/import_sat_fat.html -Saturated Fats & Diabetes: http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/type-2-diabetes.html -Digestion & Absorption of Food Fats:http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/fat_absorption.html Bee
