Guest guest
Neem's been used for millinia in other countries for it's bug repellent properties. For it's full property list you can go here: http://netowne.com/alt-healing/ayurveda/ HTH, Marcelle Karustis wrote: > I had seen requests on the listserv before for bug repellent (like Off > or Skin So Soft) but I don't recall any responses. Guest guest
Hi Marcelle. Here is one that uses Skin So soft: - Just mix up 1 tablespoon of citronella oil, 1 cup of water, and 1 cup of Avon Skin-So-Soft bath oil. shake well. Here is another: combine following eo's 2 droppers citronella, 1 dropper eucalyptus, 1 dropper lemongrass, 5 drops (about 1/3 dropper) basil and 5 drops tea tree. Add to a base of nearly 4ounce of veg oil, lotion, or sunblock. Regards, ersilia Marcelle Karustis wrote: > I had seen requests on the listserv before for bug repellent (like Off > or Skin So Soft) but I don't recall any responses. Guest guest
I've made some before for my dogs soap: I know I used Citronella, Eucalyptus and Sandlewood. I believe there was one other oil I added, I can't remember it now. But you will find Citronella seems to be in all the bug repellent products out there. I know it smells icky. Guest guest
Southernwood is a great bug repellent. I have a huge bush of tangerine southernwood that I use in potpourris, sprays, etc. Haven't tried it in soap or looked up to see if it's ok for skin though.... Guest guest
Go to Marge's website at www.naturesgift.com, and search for her Skeeter Beater recipe. It is fantastic! Guest guest
I use pennyroyal, citronella, tea tree, and rosemary in mine. It smells clean, but isn't an exactly an " evening on the town " scent. Not sure I want my dog to smell better than I do, anyway! pamela
Guest guest
Hi guys from a lurker, Catnip oil has been found to be twice as good a mosquito repellent than deet. I'm not sure, but if it does them, it may repel other bugs. Guest guest
I have a couple recipes for insect repellant. The first is from " Seasons of Aromatherapy " . Mix 4 drops Eucalyptus, 4 drops lavender, 4 drops Rosemary and 4 drops tea tree essential oils. Add to 1 tsp witch hazel and 4 tsp water. or add to 5 tsp olive oil. Do not use on small children. The second worked well on my dog and for my aunt and is from " The Herbal Body Book " . Combine 2 c. witch hazel, 1 1/2 tsp. citronella or lemon grass essential oil and 1 tbl. apple cider vinegar. Shake before using. Re: bug repellent Hi guys from a lurker, Catnip oil has been found to be twice as good a mosquito repellent than deet. I'm not sure, but if it does them, it may repel other bugs. Guest guest
This recipe Mix 4 drops Eucalyptus, 4 drops lavender, 4 drops Rosemary and 4 drops tea tree essential oils. Add to 1 tsp witch hazel and 4 tsp water. Minus the witch hazel and with more water. Works well as a spray for children's hair to keep the nits away. I've been using it on my GD's hair for the past 3 years and even though there have been severe outbreaks of nits at school she hasn't had them. Wink Nonetheless , perhaps you will find this link below , a solution to your dilemma .. The caveat/warning is skip the alcohol option and use the others and you are good to go . It combines essential oils with cooking oils . Consult back here / with Bee if uncertain about ingredients ..... but it should be straightforward . We use Dr Mercola bug spray and it sure does smell good. I use a similar thing on our cat as well as feeding it the good stuff. We used to use the poison stuff until I took control,(how about that a guy admitting he is controlling!). I have noticed that my daughters get attacked more than I by far by misquitos and wonder if it has to do with the food we eat. I be close to perfect and they eat a little junk. Guest guest
Neal, Love your sense of humor!! So, I'm going to try a recipe I found on Mother Earth News website. 1/2 juice of lemon 1/2 water some eucalyptus oil I will report if this one is successful. ________________________________ From: nealmcmahon2000 <neal@...> Sent: Sunday, July 5, 2009 6:56:35 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Bug repellent > > Anyone have a natural recipe for bug repellent for camping? > > Thanks, > Hi It is called a motel. Guest guest
Mountain Rose Herbs has one that you can order, I just got it but haven't yet tested it to see how effective it is (I have a lot of bites on my legs right now so will be testing in the very near future, LOL). Here's the link: http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/bathbody/body.php#bod_bug Note: it is soy-based so that might be a concern. Guest guest
**** I read that mosquitos are attracted to people who consume sugar in it's various forms (grains, sugar, carbs, etc). On this diet, we eat far less sugar than many people. I think that's why the bugs don't want us. Guest guest
, Someone in my garden group said that mint works. Someone else said mint spray works also. Mint grows like weeds so if you put some in a planter, you'll always have some. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I can tell you after I planted some at the corner of my house I stopped having ant problems.
