Guest guest
I use frontier brand yeast flakes. My son loves them and eats them straight. They kind of taste like cheese and you can sprinkle them on food. I don't know how old your daughter is, but when my son was younger, 4 or so, I would buy tiny gel caps at http://www.capsuline.com/. I would open the larger capsules and stuff the contents into the smaller ones that he was able to swallow. As he got older I would buy larger capsules. Now he he is almost 7 and can take an adult size pill so I don't have to do that as much. Guest guest
wow Irene- stuffing those little capsules sounds like such a pain! Thanks for the idea though- I am obviously willing to do whatever it takes. I bought the red star nutritional yeast today- so that will take care of the B's. I used to put it on popcorn for the children- I'll find something else to put it on. Since it does taste like cheese, I'm sure they'll like it I'm going to look into the tiny capsules- my daughter is 2.5 and my son is 5.5- I'm not sure if they will be able to swallow them (my son has sensory issues and has problems 'eating' things that are not the 'correct' consistency so I am not sure how willing he will be). thanks, Sara >can you parents share with me how you are doing the supplements for your >younger children. Guest guest
Hi Sara, With the oily vitamins (A,D,E) we give them to our son and let him bite and then suck the oil out. He used to spit the caplet out, but now, he tends to swallow them. For the other vitamins, we measure out how much he needs and then grind them in a coffee grinder. We usually blend this with his foods - like chili or tomato sauce - or in the morning with his eggs, we put the correct measurement on his plate and pour some melted butter over the grind and stir it up to make a paste that he eats with his eggs. For the B vitamins, we use yeast flakes and blend it with his food. It's really good over pureed cauliflower. Don't worry, if you are using nutritional yeast flakes, they are not the bad kind of yeast that we are suffering from and won't feed the yeast in our bodies. Frontier and Red Star are good brands in North America. > > > can you parents share with me how you are doing the supplements for your younger children. Guest guest
> > >Thanks , and Irene for your responses on this topic. I am looking for tips too. I started all 4 of my children on GAPS diet in October. My 15 year old and 9 year old had eczema and rash reactions. I think it was so bad because of the probiotic with started out with and not enough good fats. > > My 9 year old had terrible bleeding eczema on his hands to over a month and bad cough for over a month. Now has had terrible cracking bleeding lips for over a month. He has his hands on the constantly and complains a lot. We have put coconut oil, butter, duck fat, cod liver oil, now shark liver oil on them without much help. He has been off fruit for 3 or 4 weeks but still has some navy beans, butternut squash, raw veggies and nuts. I have also had all the kids on probiotics since Oct. > > Should I take him off the probiotics? I use Klare labs and I have had friends who's kids skin problems are much improved with these probiotics. +++Hi Doris. I recommend you apply cod liver oil consistently long enough to help him, and not keep changing the treatment. Unfortunately, there aren't any quick fixes. Your 9 year old should also be changed over to this diet completely. +++Are your friend's kids on this program? +++As I've written before, antifungals and probiotics aren't as important as the diet and supplements (of course including coconut oil). It's nutrients that will build up the immune system. The body is smart enough to create its own probiotics when the immune system is built up enough. So, yes, it is advisable to take your whole family off of probiotics. > > I have two children and my husband eating the yogurt I make from raw milk. They also eat fruit. ++++It would be easier for all of you if you all made the transition to this diet, so foods that aren't allowed are not available in your home. <snip> > He is on nutritional yeast flakes, vit. C, MAg/calcium, niacin, cod liver oil, vit. E, fish oil +++He should not be taking both fish oil and cod liver oil - please review this article so you understand the difference, and when you take fish oil plus vitamin A, and when you take only cod liver oil (plus extra supplements of vitamin A, depending upon the brand): http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/cod2.php He has about 2 Tbsp. of coconut oil and 1 tsp of butter. ( I had him off dairy so I am adding butter back in.) +++I suggest you back off on the amount of coconut oil, so his symptoms aren't so bad. Give him 1/4 or 1/2 tsp. per day and gradually increase it, and the same with butter since it is also antifungal. It will also help him a lot to be off probiotics, and to get more onto my diet. > One more problem for us is mold. I am extremely sensitive to mold toxins and went to a Dr. Shoemaker last year. From blood tests he wanted to treat my 9 year old to with Questran (cholestyramine- CSM). It works to get the toxins out of your body and some > people it really helps. It is hard on the digestive track so I tried it but I didn't want to put my kids on it. We had mold remediation done on our home last winter but now I notice a problem with water forming icicles forming from under our aluminum siding on the outside wall of my son's bedroom. I am having that looked into but I don't know if there is mold growing in that wall. Could this prevent his healing from going forward. +++I'm glad you didn't give your kids Questran! As you know this program gets out toxins most effectively, and even chelates out heavy metals. +++Molds can cause problems for some people, but if you cannot see water or mold inside his room I wouldn't be concerned. I think your son's symptoms will be less severe if you do as I suggest above. Keep us posted on how things are going. Guest guest
Hi, I tried the egg custard recipe, using Bernard Jensen's gelatin and the recipe did not turn out. I think I might've used too much water, so I will have to try again. It was runny and not custardy. Thought I saw something about flan. Maybe, I miss understood. Guest guest
Hi Sara, Glad I could help! My husband does the measuring of the dry vitamins because I *cannot* do math to save my life! LOL! Guest guest
> > > >Thanks Bee, I am keeping up with the cod liver oil on his lips and they actually looked a little better today. I agree it would be easier having the whole family on the diet. I had my husband read a post from one of the other women posting and he agreed but he thought it applied to the kids. He still thought maybe he would go off fruit but the yogurt and large amounts of soaked and dried nuts,(1 cup a day) and store nutbutter would be O.K. for him. He also eats a lot of carrot sticks, celery. He would rather pick the GAPS diet to follow because he is always one to take the easy way out. When we started GAPS I sure didn't think it was easy. I guess we needed that step before we would be ready for this. Doris > > > +++Hi Doris. I guess we needed that step before we would be ready for this. +++I agree that the GAPS diet is a good transition to my program. If your husband also takes the supplements I recommend it will help him a lot too. Getting off fruit is most important, and eventually he may see the wisdom of going off yogurt too. I think it is wonderful you make raw yogurt and it is definitely good to eat when a person is healthy. The foods and toxins that feed candida also feed other bacteria, and even cancer, so it is wise to go on my diet. If it can help autistic children, it can help anyone achieve good health. +++It is most important your husband and children " buy into " the common sense of this program too. That means educating them, and a long enough transition so they gradually become accustomed to it, until it is part of their daily routine. The tough part is because healing creates symptoms that aren't easy to understand or accept. +++I wish you the best Doris. It isn't easy to get a whole family to " buy into " such a drastic change in their foods, and to take the supplements needed. You are doing great so far, so keep up the great work! You are such a good Mom and wife! Luv & Hugs, Bee
