Guest guest
Hi everyone, , I really related to your post. It is a BEAR trying to figure out your right dosage for Calcium vs. Magnesium. Prior to starting Bee's diet, I had light tingling on the right side of body. I had taken Magnesium in the past on its own and if I had too much, it leads to heart palpatations. In regards to Calcium, I don't think I do that well on it but trying to give it a chance. I do drink the bone broth a lot... probably 9+ cups a week. Bee, do you think that would work for Calcium? Last night, I woke up at 4 a.m. with a severe, deep muscle cramp in my left calf. It was intense. Do you think that relates to Calcium dosage? BTW, right now, I'm on elemental 800mg Mg and 400mg Ca Thanks! Genevieve > > hi bee + group > > i'm having trouble figuring out how much magnesium to take. Guest guest
> > hi bee + group > > i'm having trouble figuring out how much magnesium to take. i decreased my dose a lot as i was having diarrhea, but then i was noticing that i was very restless and kept rubbing the joints of my fingers with my fingernails! this could easily be retracing, i've done this before, about 10 years ago. am i right in thinking that this is all related to magnesium, and i should increase it and not worry about the loose stools? +++Hi . Some kinds of magnesium supplements cause loose stools more easily than others, and all minerals require enough acid in order to absorb them. That's why I recommend them in " citrate " form. Also splitting up the doses more throughout the day can help alleviate getting loose stools. +++First, doublecheck your calcium and magnesium supplements to ensure they are " citrate " and state the " elemental amounts " on the label; if it isn't on the label you will need to take about 50% more to get enough. Then try taking them more often, and in smaller doses each time, i.e. 3 times a day. Take them with vitamin C too, which provides more acid. +++The restlessness you feel could be retracing, but lack of enough magnesium also causes those feelings, along with foot and leg cramps. +++Calcium and magnesium must be taken together, with foods to help absorption, and taken in split doses. If you take too much of one without the other, it depletes the other one in your body. > > secondly, i get very shaky after epsom salt baths. is this normal? should i be taking more of something? i also had a lot of dizzy/low blood pressure spells at a yoga class. just take it easy? +++Ensure you are taking enough calcium. Yes, it is best to take it easy with exercising. When you get dizzy, etc. you should probably stop and let your body settle down, and do deep breathing exercises instead. > > -i had a niacin flush today and it looked just like i'd gotten a wicked sunburn while wearing a bikini!! +++Wow, that is exactly what should happen! Good for you! If it is too uncomfortable lower your dose for awhile. Luv, Bee
Guest guest
This brings up a question I had. Does the bone broth (homemade, brown) contain significant quantities of calcium/magnesium? Enough to warrant changing the dosage of supplements I take for it? I am about to make another batch this weekend; last time I did notice some cramping those days I drank it. Thanks, andra > Hi everyone, > > , I really related to your post. It is a BEAR trying to figure > out your right dosage for Calcium vs. Magnesium. Gee, i get this too. Glad I'm not the only one. I'm increasing my calcium dose fr 300mg to 600mg so I hope it'll help. Shirin
Guest guest
*** Here is an article from Bee's site with som more information about calcium and magnesium. It should help you to pinpoint whether your cramping is from magnesium or calcium. http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/supp1.php Marissa > > Does the bone broth (homemade, brown) contain significant quantities > of calcium/magnesium? If you are making your broth, by soaking the bones first in lemon juice long enough, and also cooking it long enough you can probably get enough calcium by having 1 cup per day. Here's the proper instructions for soaking and cooking times, etc.: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/recipes/recipe21.php Luv, Bee

Go by how you feel, but I believe you can either lower or stop calcium supplements if you have 1 cup of good bone broth every day. Ensure you soak the bones in lemon juice long enough, and also cook them long enough to pull the minerals out of the bones - see this recipe: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/recipes/recipe21.php +++But most people will still need to take magnesium supplements, but it may be possible to lower them some too. +++If you get cramps mainly on your left side your calcium is too high or too low, and if they are mainly on your right side your magnesium is either too high or too low. However, whenever you get cramps, increase your magnesium first, before your calcium. The best, Bee

Be careful increasing calcium doses; you should be taking 300 mg twice a day as recommended, but " if " your product label does not state " elemental amounts " (which is the amount you absorb), then you need to take double the dose I recommend. But only take a maximum of 500 mg at a time since that is all your body can handle. Also take it with meals and vitamin C which provides the acid required in order for minerals to be absorbed.
