Guest guest Posted May 11, 2001 Report Share Posted May 11, 2001 Hi e, Yes I'm waiting patiently for May 28th and possibly longer here because our Nurses don't have a signed contract and have taken job action to try and encourage settlement. This job action is cutting out all overtime which is backing things up here. Our government has got to do something to encourage more nurses to want to stay here. Anyways, I'm probably look at a delay of what could even be a couple of months so I'm told by my doctor. I live in British Columbia, Canada and the PS that performed my breast augmentation is very good with a really decent reputation and I really like his mannerism. He doesn't believe the implants are making me ill but he is still good and has agreed to take scar tissue and all out. His name is Peers. I was in to see my doc yesterday and told him I can't do 5 days a week right now for my work and he agreed to take me off 2 days a week for the next couple of months so at least the pressure is off regarding my job. I have found it really difficult to do 5 days straight for the past 4-6 weeks and finally said enough. Thank goodness I have a supportive Dr. Gotta run for now but will check in again soon. I would be really concerned about those old silicone implants rupturing inside of you, then you would have such terrible problems. I pray that you get your surgery as scheduled. Those things are time bombs. Have you had an MRI todetect a rupture or leakage? Maybe they could push you through if they found a leak? Just some thoughts, and hoping for you. I've never been there, but my parents and friends have been and all say it's incredible. I'd certainly become a nurse in BC!! Although, I have heard that nurses are poorly paid in Canada, and the cost of living is so high (sort of like Denver). I actually checked out going to Canada about a yr ago, but after talking to several Canadian nurses who were working here, I decided not to pursue it. Unfortunately, the nursing shortage isn't just limited to the states and Canada--it's worldwide. Everyone is recruiting. America is recruiting Canadian and Australian nurses; Australia is recruiting British and North American nurses; Britain is recruiting Australian nurses, and the Middle East is recruiting anyone! You'd think that hospitals would wake up and pay nurses more. But nursing salaries have been stagnant since about 1991 while the cost of living has continued to increase. I am leaving Denver because I can no longer afford to live here. Denver has grown so much and so rapidly that the cost of living is outrageous. My salary can't even come close to paying my rent and other bills. As a matter of fact, I have no money to pay my May rent, and will probably be evicted. Where I'll go, I have no idea. It's pretty sad. At any rate, it's not good when care is compromised and pts are put at risk. You are definately a pt that is being put at risk. Your surgery should be a priority, especially if the implants have ruptured and you're leaking silicone into your body. I have to agree with . Is there any way you can find another doc or go elsewhere? Does you ps have privileges anywhere else? How about coming to the States to have your surgery done? However, I do know that when you find a good doc that you trust and are comfortable with, it's all easier said than done. But please consider your health and the potential that you could be putting yourself in danger by waiting longer.
