Coughing

Hi ,

I take Moduacare daily and that really has helped me from getting colds and

the flu. Used to get those all the time but not now. I tried that on the

advice from a friend and it has worked for me and my hubby. This takes time

to work so don't expect miracles with one dose.

Another thing you can do to keep that icky mucus at bay is use a cheap

generic saline spray from your local grocery store. Don't bother with the

pricey name brands as they are all the same. Use that 2-3 times a day and

soon you will see you aren't getting all that mucus buildup. Give this time

to kick in!! That mucus drainage made me miserable for years. I would cough

so bad on a daily basis that I would drip. That's now a thing of the past.

It got to be so embarassing when in public when I had a coughing fit. The

only thing that helped that was mints. I gained lots of weight from sucking

on mints 24-7 to keep that cough down. Now, I never look at them.

Try the saline right away and think about that Moducare. I get my Moducare

online as it's lots cheaper and buy enough for 6 mos at a time to save even

more. I wouldn't think of going without it now!

We used to get a flu shot yearly but don't seem to get sick anymore. That

Moducare really boosts the immune system! My sisters doc told her that he

uses it and the saline spray, too! That's how he keeps from getting sick

from his patients.

Hope this helps and you give this a try. Be patient and stick with it. This

is what worked for me and hubby but others here will probably have even more

suggestions.

Hugs,

Greenley

Betty

I have had frequent trouble with a dry cough off and on for years. While

it is possible that a cough like this can be associated with various types

of rheumatic diseases, and also as a side effect of some arthritis

medications like methotrexate, it is more commmonly caused by allergies or

lingering congestion from infection (were you ill with a cold/virus when it

started?).

My doctor gave me potassium iodide drops to loosen the mucus last winter

when such a cough did not clear up after a bout of flu virus. You take them

in juice, or more palatably in empty gelatin capsules, for a couple of days

and it causes the mucus in your lungs and sinuses to thin, so it can be

coughed up more easily. It's kind of an old-fashioned treatment but it

works amazingly well for some people. Hope this helps! Liz G.

PS a big hello to Marge & Soc Jog and welcome to all the new " faces " from

the RBF! I've been laying low due to sciatica trouble that is keeping me

from sitting at the comp. too long, but am enjoying seeing the group so

active again. : )

I think I would take her to the ER. It may be drug related but to be on the safe

side have it checked out.

My 12 yo daughter has been on Humira for a month and Mtx for 2 weeks for

severe RA. This weekend she started coughing uncontrollably. I don't know

what to do to help her. She has taken cough medicine 3 times today. She

can't seem to stop coughing.

I will call the pediatrician in the morning, but do any of you know if I

should be more concerned and take her to the ER tonight?

I have recently been tested and I have been told I have severe asthma

and alleregies to ragweed, alterneria, and cats.

I also have a lot of sinus drainage which causes me to cough

continuosly most of the time. At times, so hard it makes me gag and

almost toss my cookies. After a while my throat gets real raw and

sore. Sometimes the coughing brings on a shortness of breath which

makes me use the Albuterol over and over again.

My allergist says this is " Thrush " caused by the inhalers and not

properly washing out my mouth each time I use them. I have been

religious about mouthwashing and the darn coughing, etc. never goes

away. It constantly feels like a tickle at the bottom of my throat that

won't stop bothering me.

Does anyone out there have a good remedy for all this coughing? Please

help before it drives me crazy!!

HELP!!! HELP!!!

Hi Steve,

I can relate to the coughing. There have been times I've coughed so

hard I've gone into bronch spasms. Are you taking meds for the sinus

problems? That can help. I've had to take perscription cough meds

and sometimes that doesn't work. My dr added lidocane ( the same

stuff they use to numb you before stitches) to my nebulizer

treatment. Coughing can be a symptom of asthma as well. My daughters

don't wheeze- they cough. Thrush is a white coating in your mouth.

It makes your mouth sore. It has never made me cough. I don't know

what kind of dr you are seeing, I highly recommend you see a dr that

specializes in asthma/allergy. Uncontrolled coughing can cause

problems itself. Good luck.
