Guest guest
Hi lyra, I started off on 500mg of Ceftin 2x a day, and now I am also taking zithromax. Definetly get some acidophilus! [ ] Ceftin I went to a LLMD today and he put me on 500mg of Ceftin 2x a day. He said that this usually works better than doxycycline (iwas on 100 mg 2x a day). He also told me to buy acidophilus for my digestive tract. Has anyone tried Ceftin? Lyra

Yes; I have been on Ceftin (1000mg/day) as the single most consistant abx I have had. I also had Dory and Mepron for a period of time, but Ceftin has been my regular. It is working will for me and I am feeling improvement after about 1.85 years on it. > > Lyra Glen, in Beautiful Hunterdon County. NJ. Guest guest
Hi Lyra, My daughter was on Ceftin. It was no worse than the others. Don't take the acidopholus less than two hours before or after taking the antibiotics. There will be a negating effect. Also, you can't overdose on acidopholus, so don't be afraid of it. Guest guest
Sue, Unfortunately my insurance won't cover him so I saw one up here who was referred to me by the LDF-NJ. He put me on Ceftin for 3 more weeks and is going to do testing for coinfections. Thank you for the information. Guest guest
Hi Toni, No, I'm not allergic to Rocephin at all. Don't know why I had a bad reaction to Ceftin, if they have similar properties. Love ya, Rose From: " Toni Gray " <tgray@...> I was just wondering if those of you who are allergic to ceftin are allergic to rocephin? I am just curious because rocephin is a cephalosporin like ceftin. T.O.I.L. for Lyme! Guest guest
I just got my antibiotic changed to ceftin, 500 mg/day. Is this dosage in line with what others are taking?
Guest guest
Momquixote, Again, that dosage is a baseline bottom dollar dosage. That dosage will work on the majority of body types. However, if you are switching therapies, most likely your other baseline dosage didn't work either. Chances are your original therapy (if you responded at all to it) will work fine and switching provides only nominal additional information. Do your symptoms go away when you first take the therapy and then return before the next one? If so, you need a higher dose for your body type and the current therapy (if you respond at all) will be fine. For me, that dosage did nothing but keep the symptoms " at bay " . They were still there all the time, but just not as obnoxious. Of course one cannot take antibiotics indefinately...is better to get rid of it quickly with a dose which takes care of 100% of symptoms for a period of at least two weeks. Again, what is your body type? I am 6'3 " - 160 lbs...very thin. My metabolism just burns up the therapy too fast for it to work! Demand that your doctor do blood level tests for your therapy drug. Switch back to Doxy or Zith (if you have to) because I know those tests are available. -Jeff L. --- momquixote <baggett@...> wrote: > I just got my antibiotic changed to ceftin, 500 > mg/day. Guest guest
I am glad the Ceftin worked for you, I am one of the unlucky ones that is allergic to ceftin and rocephine, therefore I have not recovered the way others have with lyme (using ceftin). When one is faced with this problem, you have to look to other areas. I just finished doing HBOT (40 dives) It was very intense, but I think it has helped. eric schulman <eric_s11050@...> wrote: get back on orals at high dose. you need to kill the disease. eric ps oral ceftin worked better then iv rocephin eve adamec <eveandal@...> wrote: Hi my name is eve. i am using homeopathic medications, but only to help the symptoms, not kill the disease. I am being refused antibiotics because i can't afford an llmd. these meds from the natropath got me off neurontin and took away all its horrific side effects. since i am not on antibiotics to kill the disease i have to have something to help the pain...I just thought that you should hear that homeopathics do have a reason..thanx eve
Guest guest
Hi Margh...I've been on Ceftin for 6 weeks - 1000 mg. in the AM, another 1000 mg. in the PM. My next LLMD appointment is in 2 weeks, so I'll be on it for at least another 2 weeks (2 months total by that point). He'll probably put me on 4000 mg. Augmentin for 2 months, or keep me on Ceftin for a third month. Both Ceftin and Augmentin seem to make me " feel well " . Ceftin has caused no GI problems for me, whatsoever. You're supposed to take Ceftin with food, but it doesn't bother my stomach if I forget to eat breakfast before taking it. It's nothing like Doxy - Doxy feels to me like many cancer patients describe their chemo-therapy. Doxy can make me feel horrible - spinning nausea. The only negative thing I can say about Ceftin is - swallow it fast once the pills are in your mouth - have a beverage handy. The pills are as bitter as anything. Hang in there...Tom [ ] ceftin Hi Tom, How long have you been taking ceftin? I saw an infectious disease doc yesterday (not an LLMD) and he prescribed ceftin for me. I'm trying to decide whether to take it as my GI system is delicate and I had trouble w/ doxy and amoxy. Thanks, Margh
Guest guest
Thanks for your info, Kathy. What is carafate and how does it help you? Margh [ ] Core Protocol --- Herx-A-Rama > > > Hi Group...Thought I'd report on my progress with the Core Protocol (C.P.). In addition to the C.P., I'm still taking 2000 mg Ceftin per day. I've been re-reading Buhner's book - trying to do the C.P. as directed. I've created a treatment schedule for the C.P. herbs / supplements - to increase to the maximum dosage by the first week in January, then I'll continue the maximum dosage for 60 days. After 60 days, I will begin to taper off slightly, then remain on a maintenance dose for 6 to 8 more months. I'd like to stay on Lyme doses of Ceftin & Augmentin (alternating 2 months with one, then the other) until the end of June. We'll see what my LLMD thinks at the January visit. > > I guess I'm as excited about this as I was when first starting abx treatment last year. I was starting to get into an " antibiotic rut " , but I feel more hopeful and positive about eradicating this Lyme demon since starting the C.P. - and seeing / feeling results! I herx (w/in 48 hours) each time I increase the herb / supplement dose. Other than the herxs, I've been feeling decent for a few weeks. I even cleaned out my basement - got a truck load of donations together for Rescue Workers! I've been wanting to clean out my basement for 4 years. (When I felt so well this past Spring, I was too busy gardening to work in the basement). Gotta make hay when the sun shines. I must admit, for the first 7 months after joining this group, whenever I heard Lyme members share about natural treatments, I thought with much skepticism " yeah, right - an herb will kill this Lyme demon " . I can gratefully say that I now believe in natural treatments. One day at a time...Tom > >
