Hi,

My doctor recently suggested that I take a multivitamin with molybdenum.

I like my current multi but it doesn't have molybdenum in it and I don't see

it by itself in any of the health stores I shop at. Does anyone know where

to get it, how much to take, and what good it does?

Theresa,

Molybdenum is used by enzymes that are involved in alcohol

detoxication, uric acid formation, and sulfur metabolism. Dr.

Murray recommends 200 to 500 micrograms per day. Sorry to

sound like a stuck record, but Sparx (www.krysalis-sparx.com) has

250 micrograms of Mo per 20 grams of powder, so if you would consider

switching from your multi to Sparx, you would be getting Mo. I think

you can also buy it separately, if you want to take one more pill a

day! (I'm not financially involved with Sparx.)

So , how does Molybdenum work in reducing die-off? My sons M/d levels were through the roof on his hair analysis. I wonder why this was? That and Boron. The two things that help candida. How bizarre.

It metabolises acetaldehyde, the alcohol by-product responsible for

hangovers and a lot of 'brain fog' type symptoms. Wnedy posted an

excellent article about it a few weeks back, which I managed to

lose in a computer crash - anyone still got it to re-post for the new

members?

You know what's really frustrating?? Again, it's not available

It does look interesting. Let me know if you try and what results you get.

Hi Bev...

Interesting that you should mention molybdenum. I don't think a lot of

people here follow that line. BUT, through trial and error, it is helping

me tremendously with energy. It also helps a lot if I happen to be having a

reaction after eating something I should not have eaten. It has been a

fairly recent addition to my " arsenal " . Are you still eating wheat

products? They can be a factor with the pain, especially with arthritis.

Or it could simply be where you are feeling your die-off. I felt mine in

the back. I'm also a firm believer in a good probiotic. A lot of us used

Primal Defense. But there are others. The beginning of this battle is very

hard. But hang in there, slowly but surely you will see small differences,

improvements along the way.

Good luck

I had a test a mineral/vitamin test, I was found extremely low in this. Like

around the 2% from a 0-100% range. I will be ordering some to try. I'll let

you know how I do on it.

I was asking a question. What is Molybdenum? When I did a quick search it seemed

like the same thing. Please tell me what it is.

Lynne,

This is what I found at the Modern Herbalist about Molybdenum.

Hanida

Molybdenum is a trace mineral not yet well known to the public. Its presence

in the system in sufficient concentrations can make a dramatic difference in

the health of individuals coping with candida infection, multiple chemical

sensitivities or certain types of food or chemically induced migraine

headache, as well as the adverse effects of alcohol over consumption.

Molybdenum is required by the body to manufacture several important enzymes,

(aldehyde-dehydrogenase and aldehyde-oxidase) which allow the liver to

neutralize a powerful and otherwise relatively inert neurotoxin, acetaldehyde

as well as the enzymes required to break down sulfite and xanthine.

Acetaldehyde is a toxin produced as a metabolic waste material of yeast and

fungal organisms that accumulates in unhealthy intestinal environments,

circulating blood, liver and other tissues and organs of individuals with

candida albicans overgrowth.

The number of people suffering with multiple chemical sensitivities is

growing yearly. These individual's inability to cope in a chemically

contaminated environment can be nightmarish. The class of aromatic petroleum

derived chemicals which these persons are especially sensitive to are the

aldehydes. The chief toxic metabolite of alcohol is also and aldehyde

(acetaldehyde). When the liver's ability to effectively cope with this poison

is restored, the cumulative damage which has resulted from its presence in

our tissues can begin to be healed.

Many of our patients with the above complaints have experienced a marked

improvement in their sense of well being, after using molybdenum as a part of

their regimen for only a few weeks.

This is a great link that gives definitions of most health products or

Molybdenum

Year discovered: 1782

Atomic No.: 42

Symbol: Mo

Atomic weight: 95.94

Melting point: 2,617º C Molybdenum is a silvery-gray metal used as an alloy

to strengthen steel and make it less susceptible to rust and corrosion. About

70 percent of the world's molybdenum is produced as a byproduct of copper and

the rest is a primary product, according to Roskill Information Services

Ltd., London. On the consumption side, about 80 percent of demand is in iron

and steel, to which molybdenum brings such important metallurgical qualities

as hardness and durability. The rest of demand is split roughly between

high-tech metal alloys and industrial chemicals.

Hi,

We surely do not want to over do the molybdenum but the story in

question is about a plot of land and not about people who in general

ingest, absorb and excrete copper daily.

I get great relief from allergy type symptoms form small doses of

MBD daily and have had no reduction in copper levels in my hair and

urine analysis.

I would suggest if you are taking large doses and are worried to do

some inexpensive testing.

Just some thoughts,

Hi Ellen,

Thanks for the lead. I try to stay away from chelated forms because I do so

poorly with many amino acids right now. But I will check it out further.

Best Wishes,

It is a chemical element, a transition metal, a chemical relative

(cogener) of tungsten, and it is an essential trace mineral in

nutrition. it is involved in the function of the enzymes sulfite

oxidase, aldehyde oxidase and xanthine oxidase.

Did you order this  over the net - if so, where from?

From: multitoed <whimwham@...>

Subject: molybdenum

candidiasis

Received: Tuesday, 20 January, 2009, 6:33 PM

I just started molybdenum 300 mcg 3x/day and milk thistle 200 mg 3x

day and these help more than other supplements- -the molybdenum breaks

down the candida toxin, helps with die-off, liver toxicity, and

getting rid of the toxins in your body. Brain fog cleared, less muscle

and joint pain. Doctors say take it for 4 mos. (sorry I can't remember

which article said this)

I read panthetine does this too.

I got it from Jernigan Nutriceuticals, which is jnutra.com, yes, over

the Web. I think the longer I take it the less it does, but it still

helps some (could be that I just have less candida some days, it

doesn't get much to eat).

Thanks Mike, I wonder how many are deficient in Mb or just need

more because of sensitivities.

Sounds like Mb could help a lot of people with brain fog,

particularly

those with MCS or CFS.

One study summary said it helped with headaches, fatigue, brain

fog and a number of other symptoms. Looking at the biochemistry

I can understand that it could correct many chemical imbalances

in those who are sensitive for one reason or another. I had only

thought of it as a Candida treatment but apparently it is

much more.

(However, it is our experience that molybdenum will not

detoxify the specific Bb toxin.) Even though

Lyme sufferers should use molybdenum to get rid of the

aldehyde toxins, they also need to drink

plenty of purified water to keep the everyday metabolic

toxins flushed out of the tissues. Taking

molybdenum will help slow the degeneration of tissues and

related symptoms from the toxic overload.

Of course, if you are really low in molybdenum, you may not be able to

tolerate much of it in supplement form either (due to the detox it will

provoke). I'm using " Moly-B " from Carlson, but I only take 1/4 of a

tablet at a time (a full tablet will make me feel bad).

Note that Moly-B this is not an " organic " form of molybdenum, although

it is chelated to the amino acid glycine, so it should be absorbable.
