Hi

Reckon we have all made the same mistake. Got keyed up to exercise, either

to loose weight or kick the arthritis into Hades. Reckon your two day First

Aid course could come in mighty handy, just in case you slip off the

exercise bike. Start off how you mean to go on, five minutes a day, three

days a week and build on that. Before you know it you will be like me,

walking three miles three days per week and feeling the full withdrawal

effects, if you cannot go for your exercise. Mom is thinking about asking

Santa to leave me a Treadmill for Christmas, just so I can keep walking come

what may. She knows what I am like to live with, if I do not get my walk in!

I just wanted to say that I stayed very slim and healthy for 20 years on

a healthy diet and 20 mins of light exercise in the morning and 20 mins

of yoga at night - and a normal active life with 2 kids.

I 'm happy for people who enjoy the gym but I want to put a word in for

those of us who don't - I find them to be noisy pumped up places and it

is entirely not necessary to work out for hours a day just to maintain

weight - if you do need this then IMO something is very wrong with your

health or diet.

.. Now if you work out just to enjoy it that's another matter.

Not to mention that the vast majority of Hypo sufferers can only gasp in

amazement when people talk about running or working out - we simply

can't do it! Mind you I do understand that it is age relative - if you

are in your 30's its different to where I am coming from. But please be

aware when you write about exercise that many of us cannot relate to

your level of exercise - perhaps even find it hard to believe that you

are sick at all.

I can also recommend wheatgrass - its good for energy and also for

detoxing the blood.

I'm sure you have heard of Curves for Women fitness center, right?

Well, when I lived in NY I used to manage one and for 4 yrs. I watched

women of all sizes, ages, and with different conditions drop inches, it

is amazing. If you know someone who goes there and they tell you it

doesn't work it is because they are not putting in the effort they need

to. It is similar to swimming, the faster you swim the more results you

will see, same concept. All the machines are filled with fluid so you

need to pump the fluid as fast as you can for only 30 seconds and then

move on to the next station. Trust me, watching these women was amazing

and it works. I did that workout for 3 months and dropped 2 pants size,

I did it for yrs. Now, I run, ride my bike and do yoga, but yes the key

truly is a healthy diet. I just did a shot of wheatgrass and I like to

put chlorophyll in my water, they are both good for many things, thyroid

included. Good luck. -

I am nerveouse about this. I have always been a healthy person. I am

I keep everything in mind when I mention exercise that is why my suggestion to

her was Curves For Women, where it is an environment for all types of women and

very accomodating. I can't function without thyroid replacement and I have

bloodwork and a goitre to prove how awful my situation is, however I do believe

that the way I eat allows me to have a little bit of energy to force me onto

that treadmill. Once I am on it, I struggle to stay on it but I do it and it

helps me. I have more energy now, since I went almost all organic and cut out

animals and their by products and added things like freash juicing and

wheatgrass, then I did in my 20's. I also stay away from noisy gyms, I have a

treadmill, and I never work out more than 45 minutes a day. I understand not

relating to my level of exercise, again, that is why my suggestion was Curves,

where any woman, no matter what her age or condition can participate. It allows

you to bust your butt or just barely move your butt,

it's at your own pace and a wonderful suggestion to anyone who wants to try and

circulate.

Thanks - unfortunately I was already eating organic and juicing

and using wheat grass when I became HypoT - go figure?

While we are on the subject of diet and exercise, I am sure most already know

the foods to stay away from wit hypo. But if not, you should minimize or have

none at all of the following: soy, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli,

mustard...just to name a few. I found out the hard way about soy when i was a

vegan and my main source of protein was soy, I couldn't understand why I felt

great, had lots of energy but my gland was increasing drasticaly in size. I

researched diet first because mine was so unique at the time and found out lots

of negative effects from the isoflavones in soy against proper thyroid function.

I stay away completely now, which is why I eat fish for protein, however, these

days our fish is loaded with mercury so ofcourse that is not good for the

thyroid either. So frustrating, I know. Have a healthy day, everyone.

Ya know, my doctor didn't tell me any of this stuff!!! My hair! Is it growing

back after if falls out? My head is so itchy!!! I feel like I know nothing

about this!!!

Most of the goitrogenic vegetables will not matter once you are on a

full replacement dosage. Just don't eat them WITH your medication. Soy

and fluoride, however, will go after thyroid hormones in the blood. I

still stay away from them. The richest source of fluoride is tea (not

the herbals).
