memory loss

The funny thing is I remember chatting with the anesthesiologist right before

both BHR's and didn't lose my memory of either. I remember thinking what a

gracious lady the first one was. It was only with the knee op in 1995 that this

happened.

Maybe it was a different drug?

...there are so many variables with memory loss that it's hard to compare.

I have severe memory/retention/conversational, etc problems. In general cognitive problems.

One could say it's my age...I hate it when I'm told, "Well, at YOUR age Sher...".

Age, meds, not enough O2...I'm afraid I'm not much help 'cause I don't really know the cause. I also have fibromyalgia and "brain fog" is common with that.

I sure relate to the frustrations however.

I'm sad to read about the HIV+. My son has lived with AIDS for many years and has been at deaths door 3 times. He keeps on keepin' on tho'.

May you do the same ,

Memory Loss

I was diagnosed with Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis in May 2005. I have a cronic dry cough, and nothing seems to help it. I'm unable to take any medications that have steroids, because it makes my blood sugar go over 500, and it's difficult to bring it down to the normal range. So the only thing I can do is be on oxygen 24 hours a day.I read a posting on another site that PF can cause memory problems because oxygen doesn't get to the left side of the brain. I'm not talking about just losing my keys. I do some things that I don't remember why I was doing it. I say things in a conversation that were already said. I seem to go in and out this "fog" where I don't know what's going on around me. I stopped driving because of it.I also am HIV+ and my doctor has officially said that I have HIV related dementia. He tells me I need to stimulate my mind. I do try. I have an appointment with him in February and will be discussing these situations. My question is.....does anyone else have memory probelems relating to Pulmonary Fibrosis?Thank you!

Thank you bruce....

First...I don't have an oximeter. The pulmodoc never told or

suggested for me to get one. Is it the same as the one used in their

office? How is it used? Occassionally or all the time?

I have had severe fatigue until my regular doctor put me on 200mg of

Provill to be taken once per day. It does wonders. I normally get up

at 5:00am to take my meds. Prior to taking the Provigil, I would

sleep all day because of the exaustion. NOW, when I get up in the

morning, (usually without a nap during the day) I'm up until I go to

bed around 8:00pm.

These problems really aren't from age - I'm only 54 years old. I

have been on antidepressants since 1985 when I was diagnosed with

HIV. My meds have been changed many times. I'm now on 150mg of

Welbutrin XL once per day. I do have days where the depression is

bad. But....oh well. I just deal with it!

Could you tell me of any online exercises and puzzles? It would be

appreciated. To give you an idea of today - I walked right into the

wall when going to put something in the kitchen. DUH!

Thanks for your help!

Hi Sher....thanks for writting.

I'm sorry to hear about your son. I've been poz since Nov. 1985, so

I guess you can say I'm a longtime survivor. There are many of us.

How long has he been poz? I'm here if you or he would like to talk.

As I mentioned, I do have these " fog " moments. It's awful. I can't

drive anymore and people laugh when I'm having a " moment " . I can't

get them to understand how awful this is. So, I just laugh along

with them. I think my partner (we've been together for 22 years)

finally got the " message " yesterday.

He tells me that there are times that he's afraid to leave me alone.

I walked into the wall today when bring something to the kitchen. He

heard this " bang " and asked what I did. He then said " I'm not to be

worried? "

I'm REALLY frustrated.

Thanks,

Hi ya ,I play on a site called POGO. It has lots of free games and puzzles and for a small charge many more. You can also chat while you play.My daughter bought me a DS for Christmas with a game called Brain Age. Even reading aloud to yourself and doing simple math problems quickly will stimulate your brain. If you join POGO let me know and I'll add you as friend. my POGO name is iamjustamazed lol. Most of us deal with depression at least some of the time. I do think that brain work helps with that too.Blessings <>< Citrus Heights, CaliforniaCOPD-Asthma LIP-2006NHL-1999SJS-1994New LifeFeed the hungryFree Mamograms

As to mental exercises, here is a page with a listing of a few online

sites:

http://longevity.about.com/od/mentalfitness/tp/braintrain.htm

Also, just google " mental exercises " or " mental exercises online " .

As to an oximeter, it would be like the one at the doctor's office. One

you can get inexpensively ($65) is this one. Many members here have it.

Bruce, for memory while iam using my pflex, i play hidden objects games that you can download free for a hour on my computer. it helps the time of the exercises go by and my brain must search for clues. Also i noticed if iam thirsty or do not drink my quota of water a day my icentive spirometer doesn't seem to work as well, so being hydrated is important if you are on o2 it seems, what say you? sharonp asthma ph2008

I say the proof is in the pudding....lol

You've obviously noticed that dehydration affects your ability to

breathe. You've just done it in a measured way through your spirometer.

Hydration is important to all of us and as we're more sedentary we may

slip. Many factors impact our breathing. I find sleep, exercise, general

tiredness, so many things.
