I have been reading about flaxseed oil and peri-menopause. I would

like to take some, but will it bother the armour thyroid that I take?

I have a hormone creme question.

I used Tri-est, testosterone, progesterone natural cremes compounded at a

pharmacy. I just refilled them today and they are telling me that I cannot

use them if they are 6 months old and NOT to keep them in the frig. I have

new tubes I never got to, that are over 6 months old and have been in the

frig that long. They told me to throw them out.

Does anyone know if they would be worth keeping.

No, it doesn't. It's very good for you. Flaxseed oil contains

beneficial essential fatty acids, including Omega-3. These are very

beneficial for thyroid support, as well as your overall health. Some

info here:

http://www.drlowe.com/nutrition/articles/omega3.htm

I use flaxseed oil & grind flaxseed periodically I've also recently

added cod liver oil to my supplements. I adjusted my Vitamin

A/betacaroten/Vitamin D supplemnents down accordingly, as CLO contains

those. CLO is a very good source of EFAs (DHA & EPA). I find it goes

down fairly pallitably when quickly followed by a swig of milk. I

can't take it straight.

Also make sure that it's kept refrigerated as it can go rancid

easily. I buy it refrigerated, several brands are available this

way, Udo's Choice and Barlean's.

I think that the pharmacy you got them from would know

best the shelf life of their own products, the shelf

life of the ingredients they use, how it should be

stored, etc.

You could try the out of date products and see if they

alleviate any symptoms - that's a good way to tell

because usually it only takes a day or two for

symptoms to flare up if the hormones in the product no

longer work.

That is, unless you're having serious bleeding or

something. In that case I wouldn't mess around with

trying out the old, but just go with the new.

I'd also let the pharmacist know that you aren't using

as much as is being prescribed, so that you don't

waste any money paying for the extra that you won't

use.
