Guest guest
Hi Lois ~ My son Dylan (11) is on Abilify as well, 2.5 mg per day. We have seen some positive effects of this - he actually sleeps most of the night now. We haven't seen any negative side effects. It's hard to figure out when you start a new med. if things are side effects, or like you said, if it's just a bug. Maybe because your other son is sick & you are not sure if has it wait a bit longer before increasing the abilify dose. Good luck! Becky Lois wrote: Hi, I don't post often but need a little advice. My son 6 1/2 just started on Abilify (1/4 of 5mg per day)on August 12th. We have seen no negative side effects (except for being sleepy when given in the am), until a few days ago. At this point I can't determine if we are seeing side effects or an undiagnosed illness. Tuesday he seemed more osbsinant and sleepy than usual. Wednesday very compliant and agreeable but low energy. Thurs several VERY smelly gross poops, diaper rash, and bright red penis. Thurs evening diareah, gas, sleepiness. The dr. wanted me to increase the dose of abilify Wed if no side effects. I didn't and won't while I am unsure of what's going on. Just wondered if anyone here had any wisdom to share on this. Side note: my eight year old is complaining of headaches and seems lethargic, so they may just both have some kind of bug. I can usually figure these things out, the medication piece has me a little unsure of myself. Thanks for reading and responding, I learn so much from all of you. Guest guest
Hi Lois, just started abilify last night. I have a 2 mg tablet that I crushed in some yogurt. He took it at 9:30 pm. At 10:45pm he started burping like he was going to throw up in his sleep. I layed down with him for an hour until he settled down. He was up at 3:30 am throwing up and had green stinky frothy poop. ( the medical info says peak levels are from 3-5 hours) I couldn't get him to drink anything to rinse it out. Poor baby. I slept with him the rest of the night. This morning he would only eat 1/3 of his breakfast. I sent him to school and so far have not heard anything from them. took depakote 5 years ago for seizures and had the same side effect. Another thing to remember is that the drug takes 2 weeks to be saturated into the system. So you are at that 2 week mark. I am seriously thinking about getting out my natural cures book and giving him vitamins. The Abilify bottle said not to give it to patients with a history of seizures or pneumonia. Nick has been seizure free for 3 1/2 years and his respitory system has been good for 2, but I just don't want him sick again. It is so hard to know what is the best for our little ones. Nick is also 6 1/2 Good luck with you decision. Dianna --- Becky Kligora wrote: > Hi Lois ~ My son Dylan (11) is on Abilify as well, > 2.5 mg per day. Guest guest
While I must admit that I have not had any experience with Abilify I do know that some meds take awhile to get into the body's system. I would contact the doctor and let them know about the symtoms and your concerns. There a websites that can tell you about any meds that you are using and any aide effects that they may have. You can also check for any drug interactions. Hope this helps Wayne K Dad to -23-DS -21-DS/PDD-NOS/OCD > > Hi, > I don't post often but need a little advice. Guest guest
-Hi Dianna, Wow! Poor , I hope he is feeling better today. That sounds awfull, but I guess at least you KNOW that it is a drug reaction. I am still trying to figure it out. At the moment I am not increasing or decreasing the medication. He seems to have a yeast infection in the diaper area and I am just treating symptoms. Thanks for the info and the support. Lois > > Hi Lois, > just started abilify last night. Guest guest
I'm catching up on everything and saw this post. My son was on Abilify for a few years. He was given it at night before he went to bed so he wasn't tired when he went to school. He would take it at night and fall asleep almost right away. I never did see a negative side effect.I did see better results from respirdal and seroquel but my son gained alot of weight on those. Abilify controlled his rages for some time but after about a year and a half I noticed that it wasn't really doing anything for him. -- In , Becky Kligora wrote: > > Hi Lois ~ My son Dylan (11) is on Abilify as well, 2.5 mg per day.
