from dale, Mom to Katy CVID, age 22

Katy had reactions to Benadryl, so we didn't give anything. If it turns

out that he needs something -- I would think they could find something

besides Benadryl! Benadryl reactions are terrible and I wouldn't put a

kid through it (or the parents!)! There's no reason to believe that he

HAS to have Benadryl -- it's usually just used as a precaution and some

people find that it eases some of the aches and pains that can accompany

IVIG - either by reducing histamine reactions or maybe just the sedative

effect. For Katy, it just wasn't worth it - and it wasn't sedating!!!

Hope that helps and tomorrow goes well.

In His service,

dale

Its to prevent reactions. How is he getting it? We had to switch from oral

to IV benedryl due to reactions.

We do not give benedryl before the

infusion...her first one was when she was hospitalized

for her FOD and the doctor never ordered it. If the

benadryl is making him sick I would suggest to the

doctor that they not give it to him. You don't want

him to get sick and throw up with having a FOD. Good

luck with the infusion.

Take care,

We also have negative side effects, but found that Atarax works great.

Thanks for any info, my infusion is tomorrow morning.
