My daughter is taking olive leaf for gut problems/probable candida etc. and

she said she wouldn't be without it now.

Chris.

Read an article in " Better Nutrition " magazine last night and wanted to

share a few points with you all:

" Olive leaves offer the one, true, natural and nontoxic way to eliminate

illnesses arising from viruses, bacteria, fungi, yeasts, protozoa, worms,

flukes, and other parasites. Ingredients in olive leaves work against those

specific microbes causing herpes, infections, skin diseases, candidiasis,

malaria, arthritis, heart trouble, flu, and even the common cold. "

............

" Oleuropin, the powerful germ killer in olive leaf extract, has been used

as a cure-all for thousands of years among those populations bordering the

Meditrerranean. ......Oleuropein is a phenolic compound and the source of

disease-resistant characteristics of the olive tree.....It strengthens the

body's immune system. It's the curative for malaria and other protozoan

diseases. It helps block the growth of viral diseases such as HIV, Epstein

Barr, Cytomegalovirus, genital herpes, shingles, cold sores and retorvirus.

It helps stop sore throat, sinusitis, rhinitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia.

It reduces the symptoms of Lyme Disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, yeast

syndrome, fibromyalgia, athelete's foot, and jock itch. In all Balkan

countries plus Russia, Turkey, Greece, and Italy, olive leaf extract is

extensively employed as a broad-spectrum germ killer. " by Morton

DPM , author of Nature's Antibiotic: Olive Leaf Eatract.New York:

How do you take this leaf? Do you eat it or make tea of it. Where do you

buy it at a grocery store or health food store? Also, is it the same as

using olive oil cold pressed the green kind? Thanks, Diane

Yoly, you can always reduce the dosage of the olive leaf until the Herx

dies down a bit if things get too uncomfortable.

Hi Carol, Good to hear from you. I sure hope you have gotten better.Olive leaf

works as a broad spectrum germ killer. It kills a wide range of microorganisms.

The book says that you will feel the " Kill off Period " . Or what we call the

HERX.

So it not only kills yeast but also parasites ,amobeas ,

bacterias, fungi, protoza, worms, flukes. Also works against specific microbes

causing herpes, infections, shin diseases ,candidiasis, malaria, arthritis, heart

trouble, flu,and even the common cold.

Order the book, Olive leaf extract, by morton walker at amazon.com. It

will ship out in 2-3 days. Take care ,Yoly

Could you post the source for the olive leaf extract? I've heard that

despite some claims on labels, many supplements contain almost no amount of

the main substance...

The olive leaf extract I've heard most often recommended is one by East

Park in , Nevada - 38% oleuropein content. It's also listed in

Dr. Morton's book titled Olive Leaf Extract.

For orders or questions, call 1-800-656-8687 - 60 capsules for $29.95 or

12 bottles for $216.00 or $18.00 per bottle. They also sell Dr.

Morton's book for $3.00. I just heard they have a website

http://www.eastparkresearch.com.

Dosage for prevention is 1 to 2 capsules daily.

for illness - 2 capsules three times a day.

acute crises viral/food poisoning - 1-2 capsules every hour for

several hours, then 1 capsule every hour.

" Drinking large quantities of water should prevent a detoxification

overload (Herxheimer Reaction). If one does occur, large doses of

vitamin C (again with plenty of water) usually provides needed relief.

Pain relievers can also reduce the discomfort until your body catches up

with the elimination process.

If you are still uncomfortable, reduce the amount of Olive Leaf Extract.

Many long-standing problems, especially yeast overgrowth, may take a

period of time to improve or eliminate. " from East Park literature.

I use Olive leaf to fight yeast infection and it does better than anything

else for me. I wondered if it might help the arthritis but don't know for

sure. I have no idea if it would help a herx.

Thanks Liz, I'll try and find OLE in this country if I can.

Bye the way, what dose of Tetracycline are you on. I am on 250mg x 2 daily.

I've been on it for 3 weeks MWF and now for nearly 2 weeks daily. I'm not

sure whether I'm herxing or flaring. Some of my joints are sore, others not

so bad. Some of my muscles, esp calf and shoulders are very sore. I'm more

tired than usual and feel particularly grotty. How will I know if I'm

herxing or flaring? I know this has been discussed recently but it's

difficult to know whats happening. Will I only know once I start to feel

better what it was? I'll keep drinking the water!

Hi Sandy,

Yes I take OLE but only since mid April, so can't say and I only take one

Does anyone have any experience with this stuff? It sounds pretty good but

does it benefit those with rheumatic illnesses? I only saw one testimonial

from someone with RA but lots from others with various other illnesses, so I

wasn't sure if it was something we could benefit from. I searched the web

for any info on it regarding rheumatic illnesses but so far I haven't come up

with anything.

I've just located a cheaper source for East Park Research's olive leaf

extract. NEEDS carries it for $17.99 per bottle.

Dee, try going to http:// , log onto the rheumatic group,

and do an archives search. There was a great deal of discussion about this

when I joined the group about two years ago, so you might want to start with

the posts around February, March or April of '99.

Olive leaf has anti-microbial, anti-fungus and anti-viral properties, so it

fits right in with the antibiotic treament, and some group members have used

it to prevent yeast infections with the constant antibiotic use.

I use it myself when I can afford it, particularly if I have another

infection which is causing my RA to flare, but have trouble fitting all the

supplements, etc into the budget with only being part-time employed and

having a family to support. The most valuable supplements to me, in my

estimation, are the vitamins I take, b-complex with extra b-12 and some

folic acid, vitamin c, vitamin e, and fish oil, and my acidopholous

supplement. There are also supplement recomendations in a couple of the

articles on treatment considerations in the articles section under

autoimmune illnesses on Dr. Nicolson's website at www.immed.org . Hope

this helps. Liz G.

our family uses it regularly however not the east park. I order mine bulk

thru Herbspice & tea.com and its very inexpensive like $3.50 per lb. we

capsule it ourselves or make a tea or dilute the cold tea water with juice

so kids don't mind taking it (or know they are taking it) we all muscle test

very strong with olive leaf. Its antiviral antifungal and antibacterial. I

think you can take large amounts without toxicity. kathy

I buy my olive leaf 1 lbs bulk thru Herbspice & tea.com. it costs about $3.50

per pound. there is a $10 discount if you order more than $40. Here's what

I order thru them: empty Gel capsules 200-300 for about $3. Also milk

thistle 1 lbs bulk about $3.50 (I think). Cranberry juice (expensive) 1 lbs

for $22 but is suppose to be highly anti fungal and anti parasitic.

ARthritis blend capsules already perpared formula $5.50 has devils claw,

cats claw and yucca and burdock...other herbs too...its a goood formulaa and

you can 't beat the price. I also buy my cooking herbs like cinnimon,

cilantro, cummin, ginger, turmeric, italian spice blend is really great for

salads and chicken spice, most of those are $3.50 a lsb. A very suportive

herb is slippery elm. it sucks up toxins and is soothing for the gi tract.

IT is more expensive like $7.00 but would be good to take. I am not a

herbalist so I don't profess to know the perfect blends of herbs in a

capsule, but you can rip off other retail blends. For instance. if you take

goldenseal and echinacia then I would feel safe makeing a capsule with half

g.seal and half echinacia. with milk thistle , ginger, turmeric, olive leaf

and slippery elm you can combine or take singularly. I have to treat five

in our house hold and this allows me to use herbals in a more affordable

way. my doctor likes to rotate the olive leaf (and most herbs) so that your

bugs don't get used to them but we do one week of olive and then one week of

gratefruit seed extract (which they don't sell) they also have papaya leaf

which is a good digestive (but too much can be constipating.) hope this

makes sense. good luck and hope you feel better. kathy

Hi Diane,

two things to check out. An inexpensive blood test called HLA B27, the

presence of which would indicate reactive arthritis (reiters). A check

for ASO titer, high titer would indicate a strep involvement. Sometimes

this interferes with the effectiveness of the AP.

Hi, I used to run a low grade fever of 99 to 100 as well and was

feeling cold quite often. The doctors had no explanation, but over time I

found out that I had a slow growing infection that took 22 months to get rid

of and approximately 6 months or more to find and identify. I had the

mycoplasma test done and it was inconclusive re any mycoplasma present, but

it did say that they had found evidence of an old infection. I still wonder

if the old infection took hold again as my immune system became more

disfuntional.

Just some thoughts.

Take care and God Bless,

Thanks. I've been giving it with meals, which could be why I haven't seen

results! Fingers crossed that it will work :-)

Jo,

You have the same Solgar OLE I have. 3 a day as they say is fine. I do 2 a

day and got results. Tend to do less on everything as I'm sensitive to so

much. Could be fast metabolism.

Don't know what you mean by spots and Primal Defense. Dedy asked about

topical. This site

http://www.globalherbalsupplies.com/herb_information/olive_tree.htm

has oil topical uses. Can't tell if they mean a leaf oil or the olive bach

remedy they list.

No one with the kinds of chronic infections we have. It might help,

but I wouldn't count on it alone.

OLE does make a significant different.

There were some reports of it curing some people when I researched in back in

1999. I would strongly recommend using enzyemes (bromelain, nattokinease) with

it… It is a protease inhibitor – so it’s benefit is cutting

the reproduction rate. Another way of cutting reproduction rate is raising body

temperature – which seems to happen from adding Vitamin D and boron (they

interact)… I would suggest 3000+ IU of D and 3-6mg of Boron….

Hi:

Has anyone

successfully used OLE to treat virus, parasites and fungus?

Hi Ken:

Do you still recommend East Park's OLE brand?

It's a little expensive from what I saw at needs, but it seems to be

stronger that the other ones.

What do you mean by " cutting the reproduction rate " ?

Thanks,

o

Yes - we continue to use East Park.

Protease inhibitors

" the virus uses proteins and chemicals inside that cell to make more

copies of itself. Protease is a chemical, known as an enzyme, that

HIV needs in order to make new viruses. Protease inhibitors (PIs)

block the protease enzyme. When protease is blocked, HIV makes copies

of itself that can't infect new cells. Studies have shown that

protease inhibitors can reduce the amount of virus in the blood and

increase CD4 cell counts. In some cases these drugs have improved CD4

cell counts, even when they were very low or zero. "

From http://www.aegis.com/factshts/network/simple/protease.html

I personally find that 3-4 capsules at bedtime guarantee me quick

hard sleep.... not sure exactly why...
