I have no idea. Are you using Lugol's Iodine? I am wondering if I stop

the Iodoral for a week or so if it'll all be out of my system. Do you

know how long it stays in your body? I stopped using it two days ago to

see if this heat issue stops. I hope it's not those darn hot flashes.

Good Lord.....I do not need another health issue to research now...I am

still dealing with hypo and adrenals.

No, i'm not using any iodine supplements, just what I get via dietary

sources. but since i have a reaction to oral iodine (like vitamins), I

was just wondering if I would get the same sick/ill feelings if I tried

swabbing.

All you could do is to try it and see how you would react. Are you

feeling brave today? <grin> If you do, maybe swab some on a Q Tip and

apply it lightly? I don't think I'd use a whole drop of iodine. lol

I've noticed that I'm not hot today. I think I was reacting to the 4

Iodoral tabs, combined with the 3 grains of Armour. I am off of the

Iodoral for now until I can do it properly and get the Iodone Loading

Test from my dr.

It was in the 80s in Tx yesterday and at 10:00 PM it was still 73

degrees! We got a cold front and it's freezing out with rain so I am

enjoying the cold temps and I'm not cold at all for a change! Now all

we need is some snow!

lol. no, i'm not feeling " brave " today as I'm in Super Clean mode

preparing for Christmas and my baseboards must all be dusted before I

start swabbing. hmm...i'll put " swab Lugol's " on my New Year's

Resolutions though. ;-)

no, not presumptuous. if i normally don't take a vitamin supplement

with iodine, then take one with it and have problems in the week

afterwards...and have tried experiment a number of times....and have

heard other Hashi's folks report the same experience....it's seems like

a pretty logical conclusion to me.

What form of iodine did you use? Lugol's Solution has only water, iodine,

and potassium iodine. So, I wouldn't expect an allergic reaction unless you

are really allergic to iodine. Which, you probably are not.

If you took kelp, I expect that to more likely cause allergies.

I'd wait to try the swabbing with the iodine, too. I don't want you to

feel badly over the holidays. Enjoy decorating for the Christmas

holidays. Did you put up your tree yet? I put ours up since hubby has a

bad sprain in his shoulder blade area. He's on pain pills and the

Naproxen Sodium gave him a splitting headache. He couldn't figure out

how he could get such a bad headache and I decided to do some reading

on the prescription insert of side effects. Yep, it listed headaches as

one of the 50 side effects. Now I know why I hate prescriptions with a

passion.

Hi Amy,

I have stopped the Iodoral and I am not getting those episodes of hot

flashes or whatever they are. I see how it took you 1 week to get

past the side effects of the Iodoral. Gosh, I was starting to think

that someone up there was not happy with me. (I've been really good

this year, too!!) I feel sorry for women who deal with hot flashes.

Whew!

I'm feeling more like myself today and I don't think I have gotten

more than 1 time today that I felt a bit warm. I did feel warm when I

got up at 6:00 AM but my hubby covered me up with the blanket and I

also had the heat on so I didn't really need the blanket.

I've had the saliva testing for thyroid antibodies but it came back

as normal. I will ask my dr about doing the Iodine Loading Test at my

Dec 27th appt. I guess you wouldn't enjoy taking Iodoral while living

in the hot state of Texas....especially during the summers. lol

Sue

> In my case, it wasn't hot *flashes* or feeling warmer. I was HOT

for a few hours. I had to wear sleeveless shirts when others are

wearing long shirts & jackets. The hot was significant, but for me

was secondary to other reactions (e.g. throat stinging). The

weather was cold enough so that I could get comfortable. I don't see

how I would be able to tolerate that heat in 75 degree weather or

warmer.

When I went off Lugol's, the stinging & heat went away within a

week. When I start again, I plan to fraction my dose. One of my

doctors thinks I'm allergic to iodine (autoimmune reaction). I don't

necessarily believe that. However, that explanation is consistent

with other 'allergies' that have kicked in with this autoimmune

response gluten & casseinate).

Hi Amy,

I don't have any swelling in my neck area. On my last visit my dr

felt it and said it looked good, too. I did the saliva testing and it

said the Antibody test was normal but I've heard others do both blood

and saliva testing and the blood shows antibodies so I should get

tested via blood. I didn't ever get any stinging in the throat area

and I can also wear turtle necks and it doesn't bother me....altho,

we don't wear many turtle necks in Tx. lol

I noticed that since I lowered the armour by 30 mgs and dropped the

Iodoral, my hands feel cold today. I miss that in the Iodoral but I

do not miss getting hot and sweaty. I never sweated prior to the

Iodoral so it was gross. *ick*
