Guest guest
Proton pump inhibitors inhibit the secretion of stomach acid. Because we need lots of it for digestion, and we're not getting it, indirectly these drugs promote bowel disorders. No, what doctors are treating is the acid-feeling (reflux, GERD, heartburn) in your throat, they are not correcting the lack of acidity in the stomach that causes it but making the disorder worse by further diluting it. Look up hypochlorhydria and think, while more than half the population is known to have weak stomach acidity, why then is essentially everyone being treated in exactly the wrong manner by further suppressing it? Guest guest
Thanks for the reply, Duncan. So is the HCl approach safe to try w/o a doctor's supervision? (Everything I've read said only to try it with a dr's okay) I'm also taking a physiological dose of Hydrocortisone (27.5 mg per day)....would that interfere with taking HCl? (I read somewhere not to take HCl if taking H.C., but they were most likely talking about large doses of H.C.) I really do want to get off of Prilosec....I know that I don't have GERD/reflux because of a Prilosec deficiency! Thank you~ > > > > > > Duncan, > > > How can I know if I have low stomach acid or too much? Guest guest
I think its safe to say that most of the time Betaine HCl is done without a doctor's supervision. It's considered to be safe enough to be sold OTC, but sure, I'd never suggest to not at least try to keep the M.D. in the loop. He will let you know if his drug will conflict with trying to normalize your stomach acidity or any other natural biological function.
