Guest guest
Hi Teri I was uneasy before I ever went to see this guy. My nephew went to him, and warned me about him. [1] My exam consisted of him looking at an Xray several years old, tapping me with a little hammer, and touching my back and asking me if this or that hurt. That was it. No current labs, no MRI, CT, Xrays, nothing. [2] He discounted most of what I said. [That pisses me off.] I have been DX'd by 7 doctors in 15 years with Fibromyalgia. [inc my present GP and Gastro.] He said FM is just a term used for body pain, and blew it off. [3] I looked up the Lamictal he wants me to use, to replace the Lyrica that is commonly prescribed for FM pain. http://www.rxlist.com/lamictal-drug.htm - pg 1 & 3. He told me it wont hurt my liver, and I might get a canker sore in my mouth. He didnt mention that some people get bad body rashes, sometimes that can kill you, as a side effect, or that Lamictal isnt even prescribed for any kind of pain. Its used for seizures only, and rarely at that because of the bad sides. It carries big warnings about using it if you have heptic problems, and I do. HCV. [4] Then without any creditable physical exam, he wants to shoot my Sacroiliac up with cortisome? And that it 'might work'? huh? Do I look stupid? Without an Xray or other scan, he doesnt even know which vertibrea may be causing me problems. Hell, I might have spinal cancer, crushed discs, osteoporosis, anything. He doesnt know unless he's magically......clairvoyant or has Xray vision. Maybe he hears voices like me. LOL :-) Granted the proceedure itself is not really that big of a deal, but without a correct DX, Im not at all comfortable going ahead blindly. [5] I looked him up in the Vitals website. http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr__P_Schuster.html Some people rave about him. Some dont. He doesnt have the greatest of ratings. I am NOT taking this med. I have enough health issues. I am NOT going to let him do any sort of invasive proceedure on me without a proper exam first. And as long as he denies the existance of Fibromyalgia as relative or a possibility, I dont think I want him even in my life. I have lived with my body for 60 years, and dwelt with my health issues for the last 30 years. I think I know assembly line medical care when its done to me. Too many red flags with this guy, I think. Time to go back to my GP and get another referal. I just feel in my gut that this is the best course of action. If one doesnt feel comfortable with their doctor, they shouldnt go to them, in my opinion. Granted, I could be totally wrong about this guy, the meds, the exam, the DX, the proceedures, but is it worth the chance? My body and life are too important to me to play games anymore. I have experianced God-doctors and careless doctors before. Once bit, twice shy. Sorry to rant, but I am disappointed. I was hoping for more than this result. love don in ks From: Barrett <barrjohnm (DOT) com>Subject: Re: [ ] Lamictal 25mg [Lamotrigine] for Fibro? - back injections?? ? Date: Friday, July 2, 2010, 9:04 PM Hi Don,I have not used any of these meds, I do hope they help! I am not really sure what Fibromyalgia is but I think it has to do with extreme body aches?sometimes if you burn, release pressure from the nerves the pain can go away. What you are taking about sounds like a spinal tap, I had 2 of them after almost breaking my back. If this is like a spinal tap, you will be asleep, could not stand the pain, nobody could I think. I had things were they tried to cuk fluid out of the disks, very painful. I final got the spine fixed, and all has been okay, well sort of!I hope that when you go back and after the procedure they are able to relieve your pains.ny
