I've never understood the need for one. It only takes 15 minutes to cook

white rice, 30 minutes for brown rice, with a pot on the stove top using

the absorption method.

Actually, I honestly don't see the need for a rice cooker, a pasta

cooker, a vegetable steamer, a slow cooker or a crock pot - they all

look the same to me, and all seem to do the same job as a pot on the

stove or a casserole dish in the oven. Except, of course, they make some

electrical appliance manufacturer richer.

Is there some advantage that I'm unaware of?

My rice cooker is Teflon lined. Do any of you worry about that?

Rice Cooker/Jar ?

Hello,

I sometimes wonder how many of you have an electric rice cooker/jar ?

That does heat, cook, simmer and maintain in warm condition, which freed

us from cooking rice on certain time. We probably will not live without

it. Less cooking time and worries in the midst of cooking other meal.

Quick preparation time if you are hurry to go out.

I understand that California produces rice of superb quality and very

inexpensive.

YES! I love my rice cooker!

I also started getting " genuine " oriental rice (the

kind the local Asians buy, not the enriched

Americanized version) and now my family suddenly

LOVES plain rice. Which is a surprise, it was

never popular before.

So is mine, but it makes wonderful perfect rice everytime.

I try not to worry too much, it's not good for your health either ;-)

I use cast iron on the stovetop though!

I've worked hard to rid my kitchen of all teflon, aluminum, microwave and

pressure cooker, even though it's inconvenient.

I don't think Teflon is safe at all.

Yes, we started getting the Jasmine , sticky, sushi and the Basmati first and

are starting to work on trying to get others.... also want rissoto, and ambrio ,

but soak it first!, but hate american is vitamin coated so don't wash it off.

want to find black sticky. The asians are using the rice cookers more now, but

read is better with the old methods. A great book to help get started is

" Seductions of Rice " by Alford & Naomi Duguid. They are fantastic and

have like five books, look on and Noble to view, by these pro''s write

for several well known magazines....Signed Audrey

I will get a rice cooker later for when pressed for time though.

The good news is there are some new nonsticks on the horizon

that use something called " metal glass " and other technologies

that are NOT plastic based at all. Metal glass is actually

pure metal, but the molecular structure is such that it's

super hard and slick. I have one pan coated with that,

(I think, it didn't give the details but I'm

pretty sure that's what it is)

and it's pretty amazing stuff. You can get it hot and

use metal utensils on it.

I expect with the new Teflon rulings there will be

MUCH better rice cookers out soon! Mine is teflon, I got

it way back before I knew better, but I'm looking

to replace it when the technology gets better.
