Guest guest
Hi Meagan: After reading your first post, I am amazed at what you went through. My first thought was that you have what my doctor called " silent asthma, " where the lungs clamp down and you don't notice wheezing. The other thought I had was that you should have been given your nebulizer treatments with CPAP while in hospital since your lower lobes were clamped down. Matt can tell you more about this, but the little bit of pressure helps open the airways so the medicine gets all the way into your lungs. My third thought was that you shouldn't have been sent home from the ED. If you don't feel well enough, you can insist that you don't feel well enough to go home and they will usually admit you or at least treat further. Glad you're doing better. What is your major in college? Carol Meagan wrote: Good news! -- I just got back from my pulmonologist and my PFT's today were as my doctor described " almost near normal " which is a big deal for me, he said that my increased cough and chest pressure is due to my airways finally 'popping open' and its just a feeling I'm not used to. Its generally not a good thing to be coughing as much as I am, and the pressure isn't a good thing either he said, but relatively speaking... its an improvement. He said to remember how it feels because, unfortunately, it probably won't last all that long... but that he's thrilled and he said I get a 'standing ovation' today. Of course, we're keeping all my meds the same for the time being because... why mess with success at this stage? And I'll continue to see him or at least speak with him on a weekly basis for the next few months at least but, as he put it... " sometimes you just need to take 2 steps back in order to take 3 steps forward... as long as the net movement is in the right direction -- i'm happy " So, for now at least, I'm ok -- yay! Anyway, just thought I'd share... its funny -- I hadn't posted in months and today i've posted 3 times . Anyway, thank you everyone for reading and for your kind words... they are much appreciated. Guest guest
Carol, Thanks for your suggestions, I wasn't send home from the ER, they admitted me for 3 days (not fun, but apparently I needed it) - sorry if that wasn't clear in my first post. My major in college is biology/pre-med -- my primary doctor says they should just let me into med school now lol - who needs organic chemistry anyway?? And, yes, my pulmonologist believes that I do have silent asthma -- which he also calls brittle asthma -- my lungs are one extreme or the other, and usually a combination thereof -- either i'm completely open or clamped down -- usually i'm completely open in my upper lobes and completely clamped down in at least part of my lower lobes.... as my doctor says -- I keep things interesting . I have never heard of using CPAP for neb treatments -- I know that my uncle uses CPAP for sleep apnea -- but I have never heard of using it for any purpose other than that... interesting idea -- I'll ask my pulmo about it when I see him again next week. Again, thanks for your input, its appreciated. Have a nice day! <3 Meagan > Good news! -- I just got back from my pulmonologist and my PFT's today > were as my doctor described " almost near normal " which is a big deal > for me, he said that my increased cough and chest pressure is due to > my airways finally 'popping open' and its just a feeling I'm not used > to.
